How to pick up a car from impound?

If for some reason your car was sent to a penalty area (a complete list of violations can be found in Article 27.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation), then you need to pick it up as soon as possible, because:

• the first day the car is impounded free of charge;
• for each hour of the second day of downtime, a tariff of 40 rubles applies;
• on the third day you will have to pay 60 rubles for each hour of downtime.

To pick up a car, you need to act like this:

• find out the reason for the detention and eliminate it, for example, go for the rights and documents forgotten at home;
• contact the traffic police on duty or the traffic police department to obtain a detention protocol, according to which your car was sent to the parking lot;
• to pick up the car you will be given a receipt for payment of the fine and permission to issue a car.

Remember that the traffic police do not have the right to require you to immediately pay the fine, you are given 60 days to pay. Remember also that you cannot be sent home for the reason that today is a weekend or lunch break, the traffic police department on duty works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Having received the receipt and protocol, you can safely go to the address of the penalty area.

In addition to the above papers, you also need to bring with you:

• passport;
• technical passport and HEI;
• policy "OSAGO";
• power of attorney if you are not the owner of the car.

Parking demurrage is charged separately. Be sure to ask for a receipt for payment in case you are going to challenge the legality of the detention in court. It is necessary that the characteristics of the car, which are determined visually, be indicated in the protocol of detention, it is also necessary that the brand of the tow truck be indicated. This information will be needed for litigation. An incorrectly drawn up protocol will not give you the right to go to court, and even more so to claim damages if the car was damaged as a result of transportation.

Of course, everything looks simple in words, but in a big city, all this will take a lot of time, because the penalty area may not be in the same area as the duty unit. Therefore, in order to avoid unnecessary problems, follow the parking rules, do not forget the documents at home and in no case get behind the wheel if you have gone too far with alcohol. And even if you caught the eye of the police, then try to “hush up” everything without a penalty area.
