Symptoms of a Faulty or Faulty Fan Motor Switch

If your fan motor switch only works at certain settings, is stuck, or has a broken knob, you may need to replace your fan motor switch.

The fan is an electrical switch in the vehicle interior that allows the driver to control the heating and air conditioning system. It is usually built into the same control panel as all the air conditioning controls and is labeled with numbers and symbols indicating the fan speed.

Since the fan motor switch is a direct fan motor speed control, when it fails or has any problems, it may affect the operation of the entire AC system and must be repaired. Usually, when the blower motor switch fails or a problem starts to occur, the vehicle will display several symptoms that can alert the driver to a problem.

1. The switch only works with certain settings

One of the first symptoms usually associated with a failing or faulty fan motor switch is a switch that only works at certain settings. If any of the electrical contacts inside the switch fray or break, then the switch can be disabled in that position and that particular fan speed setting will not work.

2. Switch stuck

Another sign of a bad or faulty fan motor switch is a switch sticking or sticking frequently. Damage to the switch or any of its pins can cause the switch to jam or hang when you try to change the setting. In some cases, the switch may lock completely in one position, causing the AC to lock in place.

3. Broken handle

A symptom that is a little more obvious is a broken handle. It is not uncommon for the knobs on the fan motor switch to break or crack as they are usually made of plastic. If the handle breaks, the switch may still work, however it may be difficult or impossible to change the position of the switch if it is broken. Usually, in this case, only the plastic knob needs to be replaced, and not the entire switch.

The fan motor switch is the physical AC fan control switch and is therefore critical to the overall functionality of the AC system. For this reason, if you suspect that your fan motor switch is faulty or defective, contact a professional technician such as those from AvtoTachki to diagnose the vehicle's AC system. They will be able to replace the fan motor switch or perform any other repairs that are appropriate.
