Symptoms of a Bad or Faulty AC Low Pressure Hose

Check the hose for kinks, kinks and traces of refrigerant. A faulty low pressure AC hose can cause a lack of cold air in the AC system.

The air conditioning system is made up of many components that work together so that the air conditioner can produce cool air for the cabin. The low pressure AC hose has the function of carrying the refrigerant that has passed through the system back to the compressor so that it can continue to be pumped through the system providing cool air. Low pressure hose is usually made up of both rubber and metal and has threaded compression fittings that connect it to the rest of the system.

Since the hose is subjected to constant pressure and heat from the engine compartment during operation, like any other vehicle component, it wears out over time and eventually needs to be replaced. Since the AC system is a sealed system, there is a problem with the low pressure hose, which can adversely affect the entire system. When a low pressure air conditioner starts to fail, it usually shows several symptoms that can alert the driver that there is a problem.

1. Kinks or kinks in the hose.

If the hose on the low pressure side gets any physical damage that causes the hose to twist or bend in a way that obstructs flow, it can cause all sorts of problems with the rest of the system. Since the hose on the low pressure side is basically the supply hose to the compressor and the rest of the system, any kinks or kinks that prevent refrigerant from reaching the compressor will negatively affect the rest of the system. In more serious cases where the air flow is severely obstructed, the air conditioner will not be able to produce cold air. Typically, any kinks or kinks in the hose result from physical contact with moving parts or from engine heat.

2. Traces of refrigerant on the hose

Because the A/C system is a sealed system, any traces of refrigerant on the hose may indicate a possible leak. The refrigerant passing through the hose on the low pressure side is in gaseous form, so sometimes leaks are not as obvious as on the high pressure side. Low side leaks show up as a greasy film somewhere on the low side of the hose, often at the fittings. If the system is constantly running with a leak in the low pressure hose, eventually the system will be drained of coolant and the vehicle will not be able to produce cold air.

3. Lack of cool air

Another more obvious sign that the low pressure side hose has failed is that the air conditioner will not be able to produce cold air. The low side hose carries the refrigerant to the compressor so if there is any problem with the hose, it can be quickly transferred to the rest of the system. It is common for an AC system to have problems producing cold air after a complete hose failure.

Because the A/C system is a sealed system, any problems or leaks with the low pressure side hose will negatively affect the rest of the system. If you suspect that the air conditioning hose is on the low pressure side of your car or some other air conditioning component, have the air conditioning system checked by a professional specialist, such as a specialist from AvtoTachki. If necessary, they can replace the low pressure AC hose for you.
