Skoda Enyaq iV - impressions after several hours of communication. Mini-review with summary [video]

Thanks to the courtesy of Skoda Poland, we had the opportunity to test the Skoda Enyaq iV, the sister of Volkswagen ID.4, for a few hours. We decided to test the vehicle's range and performance during a quick trip from Warsaw to Janovets and back. Here is a transcript of this experience and an attempt to summarize. In the future, the article will be supplemented with 2D and 360-degree videos.

Summation

Because we save you time, we start all reviews with a resume. You can read the rest if it really interests you.

Skoda Enyak IV 80 a beautiful, spacious car for a family, which is easy to use both in the city and in Poland (300+ km on the highway, 400+ in normal driving). May be the only car in the family... The cabin is quiet and comfortable also for a 2 + 3 family, but we won't fit three child seats in the back. The Enyaq iV is more suitable for relaxed drivers who do not need to press down on the seat when pulling off and accelerating. In extreme situations (for example, when quickly moving away from holes), when cornering, it behaves stably, although its weight makes itself felt. There are still bugs in the software (as of late March 2021).

Skody Enyaq IV 80 prices Compared to competitors, they look weak: the car is more expensive than the Volkswagen ID.4, and with this package of options, which appeared in the unit in question, the car was more expensive than the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and, as we believe, the Tesla Model Y Long Range, not speaking of Kii e-Niro.

advantages:

  • large battery and sufficient power reserve,
  • spacious salon,
  • unobtrusive, calm, but pleasant to the eye and modern look [but I also liked my Phaeton],
  • engine settings are designed for smooth driving [for Tesla enthusiasts or even more powerful electricians, this will be a disadvantage].

Disadvantages:

  • price and value for money,
  • the need to carefully choose options,
  • strange savings, for example, the lack of drives supporting the mask,
  • bugs in software.

Our assessment and recommendations:

  • buy if you are negotiating a price close to ID.4 and you need a larger rack,
  • buy if a modern but calm line is important to you,
  • buy if you are running out of space in the Kia e-Niro,
  • buy if you are missing the Citroen e-C4 range,
  • do not buy if you cannot negotiate a discount,
  • do not buy if you expect Tesla Model 3 performance,
  • do not buy if you are mainly looking for a city car.

Things to remember:

  • choose the most important options,
  • don't buy 21-inch wheels if you want maximum reach.

Will the editors of www.elektrowoz.pl buy this car as a family car?

YES, but not for PLN 270-280 thousand... With this equipment (except for rims), we expect a 20-25 percent discount to start considering the vehicle upon purchase. We do not know if it is possible at the moment to get such a discount, perhaps Skoda representatives laughingly spat on the screen while reading these words 🙂

Skoda Enyaq iV 80 – overview (mini) www.elektrowoz.pl

Many people considering buying an electric car are still worried that it won't be able to travel long distances with it. Some people do not feel the need to accelerate from 100 to 4 km / h in 80 seconds, but they care about driving comfort and a large trunk. It seems that the Skoda Enyaq iV XNUMX was created to allay the fears of the former and satisfy the needs of the latter. Already at the first contact, we got the impression that this a car designed with the fathers of the family in mindwho do not need to prove anything to anyone. They can also survive without stepping on the accelerator pedal in the seat, but in return they don't want to be forced to look for a charger right after leaving town.

To check if we were right, we decided to head to Janovec: a small village near Pulawy with the characteristic ruins of a castle on a hill. Navigation calculated that we have to cover 141 kilometers, which we will cover in about 1:50 hours. On the spot, they planned to watch the premiere of Kia EV6, prepare a set of records, but did not plan to recharge, because there would not be enough time. 280 kilometers at a hard pace, on 21-inch wheels, in pouring rain and at around 10 degrees Celsius, probably a good test?

Since we only had the car for a few hours, we had to hurry. Unfortunately, it started with a failure.

Software? Did not work)

When I took the car, he predicted first 384, then later 382 kilometers range with the battery 98 percent charged, which is 390 kilometers at 100 percent. The figure may seem small compared to the WLTP value (536 units), but keep in mind the temperature (~ 10,5 degrees Celsius) and 21-inch drives. I talked to a Skoda representative, we parted, locked the car, looked, photographed it on Twitter and began to inspect the salon.

Until I pressed the Start / Stop Engine button, the machine was turned off. I checked how closing doors sound (okay, only without that plush Mercedes component), fiddled with the buttons, checked how the directional switch reacts when the brake is applied instinctively, and ... I was very surprised... The car moved forward.

At first I was covered in cold sweat, after a moment I decided it was worth documenting. Controls worked (like the direction indicators), but nothing else, including air conditioning controls, proximity sensors, or camera previews. The counters were off, I could not operate the air conditioner (the windows began to fog up quickly), I did not know if I had a light and how many hours I was driving:

If something like this happened to you, I already know how to solve the problem after calling Skoda - just hold the power button under the multimedia system screen for 10 secondsthen open and close the door. The software will be reset and the system will start. I checked it, it worked. I was overwhelmed with errors but decided to ignore them. I think if I then got out of the car, locked it, opened it, the bugs would disappear. Later they practically disappeared.

Skoda Enyaq iV - impressions, style, envy of neighbors

When I saw the model in the first renderings, I was under the impression that the design notes of the BMW X5 resonated with it. After contact with the real car, I decided that the graphic designers who tweak the illustrations to make them as beautiful as possible are doing the models a disservice. Skoda Enyaq iV is an ordinary unobtrusive elevated station wagon - a crossover.

This does not mean that the car looks bad. The sideline is good, but not amazing. The front and rear parts are designed in such a way that it is difficult to confuse the car with cars of other brands - they allow you to identify the model as a Skoda and do not shock. When I put the Enyaq IV on a haunted footpath and see if it arouses curiosity, then...it doesn't. Or rather: if they have already paid attention to it, then because of the Czech numbers.

From my point of view, this is an advantage, I prefer rather calm models. Of course, I would not be angry at a hint of insanity, some distinctive feature. I suspect the illuminated radiator grille (Crystal Face, available at a later date) will satisfy me, although I personally prefer having eye-catching elements at the back because, as drivers, we look at the rear and not the front of cars. often.

So if the Enyaq iV makes neighbors jealous, it will be electric rather than designer. This also applies to car interiors that have designer names (Loft, Lodge, Longue, etc.) .This is ok, but cozy and pleasant to the touch, reminiscent of premium brands... In my case, it was warm due to the gray fabric, reminiscent of suede or alcantara (package Living room) on the cockpit and leather on the seats, others got options with orange-brown artificial leather ("cognac", EcoSuite).

The light gray colors in the cockpit nicely broke the black plastic. They were well complemented by gray chairs with yellow stitching.

Spacious inside: With the seat set for the 1,9 meter driver, I still had a lot of room behind me.. She sat in the back seat without any problems, so the kids will be even more comfortable. The middle tunnel at the back is practically absent (it is minimal, masked by sidewalks). The seats are 50,5 centimeters wide, the middle ones are 31 centimeters, but the seat belt buckles are built into the seat, so there is no third place in the middle. Behind two Isofixes:

Rear seat space. I'm 1,9 meters tall, front seat for me

As I sat in the driver's seat, I felt that this small gap with the meter behind the wheel was a formality, a requirement for homologation. It displays only one information that the projection screen did not display: remaining range counter... In addition, I definitely liked the HUD with elements of augmented reality: it was contrasting, clear, legible, with the correct font for the speedometer. Complemented by lines displayed by cruise control, driver assistance systems and navigation arrows, I practically stopped looking at the meter while driving:

Driving experience

The version I drove had adaptive suspension and 21-inch wheels. The wheels worked honestly to transmit vibrations to the body, the suspension, in turn, did everything so that I did not feel them. From the driver's point of view, the ride was comfortable, just right nice to go from A to B... It had neither hydropneumatic nor air suspension, but even with those rims it was good to ride.

On the fast road, I heard the noise of the tires, I heard the noise of the wind, although it was not too loud. The interior was quieter than the corresponding combustion model, and it usually became louder for an electrician by about 120 km / h. By ear, the Volkswagen ID.3 was slightly quieter.

They surprised me recuperation settings in D mode. I could operate them manually using the steering column switches while driving, but each press of the accelerator pedal returned the automatic mode, which was signaled by the symbol D... The car then used radar and map prompts, so slowed down when an obstacle, restriction or detour appeared in front of him... Initially, I thought it was a mistake, but over time I got used to it, because it turned out that it was more convenient to drive.

In a busy city, I preferred to use B.

Despite sincere intentions I was unable to activate the semi-autonomous driving systemwhich in Skoda is called Travel Assist. In a situation where he was supposed to be active, the car bounced off the side of the road - I did not feel completely safe.

During tight turns, the car kept well on the road thanks to the battery in the floor, but Holovchitz's ambitions were not welcomed. It also felt like heavy machine and it power density so-so... The launch from the headlights was not overwhelming compared to other vehicles. electric (cars were left behind, hello hello), and overtaking acceleration ... well. For an electrician: right.

It must be remembered that the maximum torque is available up to 6 turns. Volkswagen ID.000 reaches 3 km / h at 160 rpm. We suspect it looks the same in the electric Skoda. 16 rpm 000 km / h. Therefore, we must feel the strongest pressure on the seat between 6 and 000 km / h, above this speed the car will not seem efficient enough (because the torque will start to drop), although still stronger and more lively than its combustion counterparts.

Energy range and consumption

After driving 139 kilometers in 1:38 hours (Google maps predicted 1:48 hours, so we drove faster than average), the average energy consumption was 23,2 kWh / 100 km (232 Wh / km). The first and last episodes were a little slower, but we didn't save the car on the expressway as part of the energy tests we allowed ourselves. during for more than allowed by the rules:

Skoda Enyaq iV - impressions after several hours of communication. Mini-review with summary [video]

Skoda Enyaq iV - impressions after several hours of communication. Mini-review with summary [video]

At the time the counter was reset, the car predicted a range of 377 kilometers. After stopping, as you can see, 198 kilometers, so a quick trip of 139 kilometers cost us 179 kilometers of power reserve (+29 percent). Remember that conditions were unfavorable, around 10 degrees Celsius, and sometimes it rained heavily. The air conditioning for the driver was turned on, set to 20 degrees, the cabin was comfortable. The battery charge level dropped from 96 (start) to 53 percent, so at this rate we have to drive 323 kilometers in 100-> 0 percent mode (until the battery is completely discharged) or 291 kilometers with a discharge to 10 percent.

The energy consumption at a constant speed of 120 km / h was 24,3 kWh / 100 km. which gives a range of up to 310 kilometers when the battery is empty to zero or less than 220 kilometers when driving at 80->10 percent - I assume that here we will use 75, not promised by the manufacturer of 77 kWh of energy due to, among other things, others , for heat loss.

In the city, energy consumption was significantly lower, for half an hour of walking in the area, during which the car traveled 17 kilometers, the consumption was 14,5 kWh / 100 km. At that time, the meters and the air conditioner did not work. After turning on the air conditioner, the consumption increased slightly, by about 0,5-0,7 kWh / 100 km.

At a speed of 90 km / h, the average consumption was 17,6 kWh / 100 km (176 Wh / km), so the car must travel 420-430 kilometers on the battery... Let's change the wheels to 20-inch ones, and that will be 450 kilometers. I ended up driving 281 kilometers on 88 percent of my battery. Before Warsaw itself, I hesitated for several minutes and for some time slowed down to 110 kilometers, because I remembered that the driver who picked up the car had to go to another place.

Pleasure and disappointment

On the way back, I was pleasantly surprised by the Skoda Enyaq iV: at some point I heard that when driving at this speed (then for 120 km / h, I was in a hurry) I won't make it to my destinationso the car suggested looking for a charging station... A few months ago, Volkswagen ID.3 prompted very strange points, now navigation correctly found the nearest GreenWay Polska station along the way and adjusted the route with this in mind.

I didn’t boot because I knew that I would still get to my destination. The remaining energy is calculated with a reserve of approximately 30 kilometers.I heard them for the second or third time, when my destination was 48 kilometers away, and the rangefinder predicted that I would go another 78 kilometers. The battery was then charged to 20 percent. I was a little surprised that the car insisted on charging: at a certain point, navigation prompted me to reach 60 kilometers to reach my destination, which is less than 50 kilometers away from me - there is still room for improvement.

The multimedia system was also a little annoying. On the on-screen keyboard? QWERTZ - and get the address here, or look for an option to switch to QWERTY while driving. Button to start navigation below the screen? No. Maybe you can go to the navigation by clicking on the address in the upper left corner of the screen? Ha ha ha ... not to be misled - look how I did it, and it was one time in a row:

Total mileage of the car? Initially (when I picked up the car) it was on the counter, if I remember correctly. Later he disappeared and never came back, I only found him on the screen Status. Battery capacity percentage? Elsewhere on the screen Strength (Skodo, Volkswagen, this is the basis in telephones!):

Skoda Enyaq iV - impressions after several hours of communication. Mini-review with summary [video]

Current energy consumption? Elsewhere screen Dane. Two odometersso that I can reset the counter on a certain section of the route and measure the flow and distance without long-term data deletion? No. Armrest? The one on the right is excellent, the one on the left is a centimeter shorter. Or am I so crooked.

That's not all. Activating the semi-autonomous driving system? You have to learn, I couldn't (in other machines: push the lever and you're done). Information control buttons on the primary meter? They work the other way around: the one who is right moves left screen with a silhouette of a car on the background of the road at the counter. Watch? At the top, in the center of the screen, surrounded by other bold icons - not to be found at a glance:

Skoda Enyaq iV - impressions after several hours of communication. Mini-review with summary [video]

But I don't want you to get the impression that I'm complaining. I have very good memories of a few hours spent with the car: Skoda Enyaq iV is a roomy car, it has a sufficient range, I likebecause it can act as the main family car at home. There are only a few flaws in it that are difficult to understand at the price.

You've already read more in the summary above.

Editor's note www.elektrowoz.pl: Please consider our coverage calculations as approximate. We measured energy consumption versus art, only on a one-way stretch of road. To be honest, we have to do a cycle, but there was no time for that.

Note 2 from www.elektrowoz.pl edition: There will be more and more such tests on www.elektrowoz.pl.. We receive cars for testing, we will gradually publish our impressions / reviews / travel records. We really want our readers to take part in these experiments - with the Skoda Enyaq iV we almost succeeded (right, Mr. Krzis?;).
