How much gasoline is left in the tank after the lamp comes on?

Most drivers prefer to fill up as soon as the emergency light comes on. The remaining gasoline depends on the class of the car and especially on its dimensions. For example, a compact model can travel about 50-60 km, and a large crossover about 150-180 km.

Bussines Insider has published an interesting study that includes models for the US market, produced in 2016 and 2017. It affects the most popular cars, including sedans, SUVs and pickups. All of them have gasoline engines, which is understandable, since the share of diesels in the USA is very small.

Calculations showed that when the lamp is turned on, Subaru Forester has 12 liters of gasoline left in the tank, which is enough for 100-135 km. Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento have fuel consumption up to 65 km. Kia Optima is even smaller - 50 km, and Nissan Teana is the largest - 180 km. The other two Nissan models, Altima and Rogue (X-Trail), cover 99 and 101,6 km, respectively.

The Toyota RAV4 crossover has a range of 51,5 km after the backlight is turned on, and the Chevrolet Silverado has a range of 53,6 km. The Honda CR-V has a fuel consumption of 60,3 km, while the Ford F-150 has 62,9 km. Result Toyota Camry - 101,9 km, Honda Civic - 102,4 km, Toyota Corolla - 102,5 km, Honda Accord - 107,6 km.

Experts of the publication warn that driving with a low level of fuel in the tank is dangerous, as it can seriously damage some systems of the car, including the gas pump and catalytic converter.
