Blind zone and car mirrors - how to get rid of the lack of visibility?

Not every car has a blind spot. When it comes to passenger cars, the main factor responsible for its creation is the incorrect adjustment of the mirrors. It is much more difficult for truck drivers, in whom this phenomenon covers a very large side area. What to do to remove the blind spot?

The problem with the blind spot lies in the incorrect adjustment of the side mirrors in relation to the position of the driver behind the wheel. While driving, you should see a car that is overtaking or driving in the adjacent lane. The moment you lose sight of it and it doesn't show up in the windshield of the front door, it means a blind spot. You are probably seeing too much of your car body at once. These two factors always come into play when it comes to blind spots.

Blind spot in the mirror - when does it happen?

Blind spots are very common in multi-driver vehicles. This is the case, for example, with domestic cars or cars used in companies. Blind spot in the mirror refers to when you decide to change your driving position to achieve greater driving comfort.

Therefore, sometimes it is enough to make sure that all side mirrors and rear-view mirrors show the correct image. Do not underestimate this issue, because leaving the area out of sight will not increase your safety while driving.

Blind zone in the car - what is dangerous?

Drivers who want to observe the large outlines of their own car while driving are making a big mistake. Why? Thus, they increase the blind zone of their car. This leads to the risk of not noticing an overtaking car and starting a maneuver, cutting off the road to another driver.

The blind spot in a car is extremely dangerous when driving at high speed. This could result in a collision or even a serious traffic accident. In 2020, traffic accidents in which someone was injured occurred due to driving on the road and forcing the right of way.

Dead space - how to deal with it?

There are several ways to remove the blind spot. One of the most effective is to pay attention to the correct setting of the side mirrors. Do this every time you get into a car and you know someone has already driven it. In this way, you will be sure that the blind spot will not take you by surprise while driving.

Another way is the installation of aspherical mirrors by manufacturers. They show a slightly enlarged view of a passing vehicle and enhance its ability to track it as it moves near you. As a result, the blind spot is eliminated.

How to adjust the mirrors to eliminate the blind spot?

As already mentioned, the blind spot can be removed by properly adjusting the side mirrors. How to do it effectively? Here is a list of things to do:

  1. Adjust the seat to a comfortable driving position.
  2. Adjust the image in the rearview mirror so that you can see the entire rear window.
  3. Without getting up from the seat, adjust the side mirrors so that you see only a fragment (about 1 cm) of the body contour.

This is a basic and still very effective way to drive safely and confidently. Of course, the blind spot will not always be eliminated 100% thanks to this. This may depend on your physical condition. The posture taken behind the wheel also has a very large impact on the perception of what is happening in the mirrors.

Is the Blind Spot Mirror an Invention Worthy of Interest?

This is a very affordable and relatively cheap gadget that you can use in your car. The blind spot mirror is usually round and is glued to the car's side mirror. This is a wide-angle element that greatly improves the viewing angle when driving or parking. This way you will improve visibility around your vehicle and eliminate blind spots. Depending on the manufacturer, you can buy such an accessory for several dozen zlotys per set, i.e. 2 pieces.

Mirror for blind spots - where to mount?

The only suitable place for this gadget is the lower part of the mirror farthest from the body. If you're wondering where to install your blind spot mirror, look no further. The lower left and right corners of both mirrors are suitable for mounting.

Such an addition is usually glued with very strong adhesive tape. Some models can also be directional as they are placed on rotating heads. However, they tend to be more expensive than conventional wide-angle non-adjustable products.

Other Blind Spot Methods

Another additional equipment that eliminates the blind zone are sensors. They are placed at the corners of the rear bumper and connect wirelessly to receivers installed in the vehicle. They, in turn, emit sound and light signals when the direction indicator is turned on or when changing lanes when an adjacent lane is blocked.

You will also find such sets in well-equipped new vehicles. Unfortunately, older models don't have them. Thanks to them, the blind spot disappears and you can enjoy a trouble-free ride.

Where are mirrors and blind spot sensors useful?

Most often, additional equipment to eliminate blind spots is used on multi-lane highways. Accidents still happen because someone unintentionally cuts off the road to someone who is driving in the adjacent lane.

You also need to be very careful on dual carriageways. With a large blind spot in the rear view mirror, you can block someone in front of you. The consequences of such behavior can be truly tragic. Blind Spot Amplifiers are also useful when parking, reversing on narrow streets, or when you want to determine the distance between your vehicle and an obstacle.

Dead space should not be underestimated. Because of this, many people still lose their health and life on Polish roads. Therefore, adjust the mirrors well and, if necessary, install mirrors for blind spots.
