Mitsubishi Triton may lose its place as a popular affordable alternative to the LDV T60.

The Mitsubishi Triton has been an Aussie favorite for decades as an affordable alternative to older rivals like the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, but that could change when the LDV T60 outsells it.

The latest Triton sales figures for August show that Mitsubishi sold 624 units of its 4x4 vehicle this month. During the same period, consumers bought up 623 LDV T60 XNUMX×XNUMX vehicles.

It's easy to see why the T60's popularity is on the rise: The T60 4x4 range starts at $30,516 for a Pro ute model with a double cab and a six-speed manual. That's below the most affordable 4x Triton - $4 before road costs on a single-cab GLX chassis with a manual transmission by some margin.

Standard GLX features include a 6.1-inch multimedia display, quad-speaker stereo, air conditioning, but you'll need to upgrade to the $42,690 GLX+ to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a 7.0-inch screen.

By comparison, the value T60 Pro looks better as standard with a 10.0-inch media display, six-speaker stereo, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and air conditioning.

For a craftsman on a budget, the solution looks obvious.

Mitsubishi was quick to defend Triton's sales, saying supply issues were hampering sales growth.

“To the best of our knowledge, these figures depend solely on the ships that are currently coming ashore,” a Mitsubishi spokesman said. Cars Guide

“We have a large order list and we are working hard to get Tritons into customer hands as soon as they become available.”

However, the Triton outperforms the T60 when it comes to grumbling. The Triton is powered by a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 133kW/430Nm, while the T60 four-cylinder turbodiesel has a 2.8-litre capacity and 110kW/360Nm.

The Triton also has a bit more towing capacity up its sleeve, with a towing braking capacity of 3100kg while the T60 has 3000kg.

At the top of the Triton 4×4 range is the GSR, which is priced at $53,240. On the other hand, the most expensive T60 is the $42,095 Trailrider.
