Should you buy an old Nissan Leaf? These are: no [video] • CARS

Youtuber Bjorn Nyland posted a post with a 2011 Nissan Leaf. The car has a 24 kWh battery, which has already lost 108 percent of its capacity after 51 kilometers. The car was charged only 24 times on fast chargers, but very often slow or half-speed charging was used.

There have already been reports of sheets that quickly lost their power. A taxi driver from Valladolid, Spain, changed the battery when the battery in his car reached less than 50 percent of its capacity, but this happened 354 kilometers away.

However, such a large loss of power in the car, which is still in service, has not yet been heard. Found by Bjorn Nyland, Leaf is used in California. A fully charged vehicle reports a range of just 49 kilometers, while LeafSpy reports that the battery has only 9,6 kWh of energy.

The Battery Health (SOH) level is less than 49 percent and another screen shows that the vehicle is not fully charging even the remaining battery available to the user.

It has been speculated that although the car was not loaded onto the quick charger, it was likely operated in hot climates. In addition, it was charged every 22,4 kilometers (4,8 thousand charges!), And this led to frequent and prolonged "frying" of the cells at high temperatures, which significantly contributed to their degradation.

It doesn't help that the car was produced in 2011, so this is one of the first LEAFs produced with the oldest and poorly optimized battery. It was also used in the (2012) and (2013) editions, although variants with a different electrolyte chemistry have already been tested in the last year. Finally, in 2014 - the model year (2015) was produced from June 2014 - it was introduced as a standard. The Lizard battery changed the chemistry of the cells, making it more resistant to breakdown at higher temperatures.
