Ultraviolet superdetector

Quantum detector of ultraviolet radiation with a record sensitivity - built by scientists from the American McCormick School of Engineering. A publication on this topic appeared in the latest issue of the scientific journal Letters on Applied Physics.

This type of detector can be extremely useful when we want to detect missile attacks and chemical and biological weapons in advance. Both aircraft and rocket engines emit waves in the ultraviolet range, similar to infrared. However, UV detectors can be useful when infrared does not work, such as sunlight, small temperature differences, etc.

A new type of detector developed by scientists should be 89% efficient. It has also been possible to develop a cheaper version of the silicon-based detector instead of the sapphire-based devices commonly used in devices of this type.
