Suzuki SX4 S-Cross - despite a certain "ordinary" - gained a large crowd of buyers. This is right? 

What has the facelift changed?

Suzuki SX4 S-Cross over 6 years old. In the meantime, the Japanese have offered their representative of the popular class of compact SUVs a rather strong facelift. What changed?

Of course, the competition is able to offer us slightly more attractively rendered bodies with more embossing and styling additions, but Suzuki will attract people who do not want to stand out too much on the streets.

The cabin is very spacious. The amount of space (especially in the back) is a pleasant surprise and is sure to be a plus when planning a holiday trip. Packing all the luggage will be made easier by the 430-litre trunk, which, despite the smallest capacity in the class, offers ample space. The luggage compartment capacity can be increased to 1269 liters by folding the rear seatbacks to a horizontal position when the luggage compartment floor is set to a higher position.

The overall design of the dashboard at first glance seems to be a typical Japanese design of many years ago - with shiny and heavily rough plastic. However, on closer acquaintance, it turns out that the materials used for interior trim are much more pleasant to the touch, and in places where we most often reach, you can even find a couple of soft materials. The steering wheel is covered in quite good quality leather, which keeps your hands from sweating, and the armrests are not only hard plastic on a quickly stuffed material.

However, the Japanese did not manage to avoid their typical archaism. We are talking about the "sticks" used to operate the on-board computer, and some of its shortcomings. One could try to refine this element better in recent years.

Central location on the dashboard Suzuki SX4 S-Cross occupies the touch screen of the multimedia system. It has a diagonal of 7 inches and offers us a very simple but slightly clumsy system. It has few options or settings, and the navigation doesn't have very up-to-date maps, but if you're lucky, you'll be able to run Android Auto on it. It took me about 20 minutes and several reinstallations of the app on my phone to get everything working properly.

A range of drives and their combinations is available in SX4 S-Cross this is very significant. We tested the richest version of Elegance Sun with the most powerful petrol unit - 1.4 BoosterJet, AllGrip all-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission.

The engine itself is a well-known design that should be commended for a very efficient driving experience. The catalog has 140 hp. and 220 Nm of torque, which allows you to accelerate Suzuki to the first 100 km/h in 10,2 seconds. She is not a speed demon, but she has no problems with stability or lack of energy. It is so good that in many cases it can mask the shortcomings of the gearbox, which, unfortunately, is slow and very often “wonders” what it is intended for. The most annoying thing about it is the launch delay, which can be compensated a bit by switching to Sport mode.

In addition, every time I got into the car and wanted to move forward, I shifted the box to the M position, which was placed immediately after the D without obvious blockage or movement in the other direction. This is very annoying, especially during quick parking maneuvers, and takes some getting used to.

The strength of the chassis is the plug-in all-wheel drive. It is based on the Haldex mounted on the rear axle and has several modes of operation - Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock, in which the drive is hard-locked in a 50:50 ratio. Of course it doesn't make z SX4 S-Cross An SUV, however, will come in handy very often, not only in winter. Importantly, in Suzuki, all-wheel drive can be combined with any engine and with any gearbox, which can be a trump card against the competition.

By driving performance Suzuki SX4 S-Cross drops out similarly to other aspects. That's right, without obvious flaws and surprises. The car rides predictably, the suspension picks up bumps nicely, and the cabin is sound dead enough for highway speeds.

All-round visibility is very good, if necessary, you can use the rear view camera. In fact, Suzuki's compact SUV can be called the Japanese Skoda.

As for efficiency, the turbocharged unit does not differ in excessive appetite. In the city, fuel consumption is about 9 liters. On the highway, it drops to about 6 liters, and at highway speeds it returns to 8 liters per hundred. Given the high body, drive and gearbox, the results are really good.

How much does a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross cost?

Suzuki I guess it was never considered a cheap brand, and coincidentally SX4 S-Photo this can be seen in the price list. The base with a liter engine opens the price list with the amount of PLN 67. As I mentioned earlier, a two-axle drive can be added to each unit, which in the case of the 900 BoosterJet is combined with the need to select a higher version of the equipment and results in a sum of PLN 1.0. Interestingly, for the front-wheel drive version, but with an automatic transmission, you will have to pay the same amount. If you are looking at the stronger petrol 81 BoosterJet, then here you need to prepare a minimum of PLN 900.

We tested the richest variety of Elegance Sun, which, in combination with an automatic and AllGrip drive, increased price of SX4 S-Cross up to PLN 108.

At the end of Suzuki SX4 S-Cross this is a solid and painfully correct car. He is not a champion in any category, but he does not stand out from the competition in any of the categories. If you are looking for a simple and roomy car, look no further than Suzuki.
