Drilling with a cordless screwdriver
Some cordless screwdrivers can be used to drill small holes if you have the right bit.
Please note: Even if your cordless screwdriver can drill holes, the diameter and depth of the hole will depend on how powerful the cordless screwdriver is.
Drilling holes requires a large amount of torque (torque force). Most cordless screwdrivers tend to be less powerful than drills and therefore can only provide enough torque to drill smaller holes in softer materials. For more complex tasks, such as drilling large holes or working with tough materials, a drill may be required.
Pilot holes in wood | |
Cordless screwdrivers that can drill are very useful for drilling pilot holes in softer materials such as wood.
Before inserting the screw, a pilot hole is drilled in the material. Without a pilot hole, a large screw would be difficult to insert and could split the material it is screwed into. |
