Remote controlled cockroach

In an experiment that could appear in a movie script that borders on sci-fi and horror, researchers at North Carolina State University have found a way to remotely target cockroaches.

If this sounds amazing, the next one will be even crazier. As a co-author of a work on cockroaches are cyborgs: "Our goal was to see if we could create a wireless biological link with cockroaches that could respond to signals and get into small spaces."

The device consists of a small transmitter on the "back" and electrodes implanted in antennas and sensory organs on the abdomen. A small electrical shock in the abdomen makes the cockroach feel like something is hiding behind it, causing the insect to move forward.

Loads directed towards the antennas make it remote control cockroach thinksthat the road ahead is blocked by obstacles, causing the insect to turn. The result of using the device is the ability to accurately guide the cockroach along a curved line.

Scientists say that thanks to the apparatus installed on cockroaches we will be able to build a network of smart sensors, for example, in a destroyed building, which will make it easier to find those who are trapped under the rubble. We see another use - espionage.
