The fenders protect the space under the body from the ingress of various objects - small stones, lumps of dirt, etc. In addition, they improve the aerodynamic characteristics and appearance of the car. The wings of the VAZ-2107 have an arched cutout and are attached to the body by welding. Due to the constant exposure to the environment, they are most susceptible to corrosion. Therefore, the regular wings of the VAZ 2107 are sometimes changed to plastic ones, which are less durable, but last much longer. In addition, plastic fenders reduce the weight of the car.

Repair of thresholds

Thresholds protect the body from various damages and are strong metal pipes welded to the sides of the car. The loads on these elements associated with the periodic boarding and disembarking of passengers, side collisions, etc., significantly reduce their resource. Despite the fact that the thresholds are made of high quality steel, they quickly rust.

Threshold restoration begins with an inspection of the door hinges. If they sag, then the gap between the door and the threshold will be uneven. Therefore, the hinges are first adjusted, and then the threshold is restored in the following order:

1. Bulgarian cut off the outer part of the threshold.
2. The amplifier (if any) is removed.
3. Work surfaces are polished.
4. A new amplifier is installed and welded.
5. The outer part of the threshold is installed and fastened with self-tapping screws.

The amplifier can be made with your own hands from a metal tape, in which holes are drilled with a hardened drill every 7-8 cm.

Repair of sub-jack

The jack rusts quickly and, as a result, needs to be repaired. It is drilled at the welding points. If these zones are heavily rusted, they are completely cut out, and a sheet of metal of the appropriate size and thickness is welded in their place.

Engine failure symptoms are:

• fast oil consumption;
• increased fuel consumption;
• weak cravings;
• unusual noise.

At the same time, the car hardly rises uphill in third or fourth gear. The main measures for the repair of the VAZ-2107 engine include the overhaul of the cylinder head and the replacement of pistons.

Cylinder head repair

Distinguish between medium and overhaul of the cylinder head. In any case, the cylinder head is dismantled and partially disassembled. The gasket needs to be changed.

The dismantling of the VAZ-2107 cylinder head is carried out as follows.

1. The battery is disconnected.
2. The air filter, carburetor and cylinder head cover are removed.
3. The upper timing camshaft sprocket is removed.

5. The cylinder head is carefully removed.
6. The gasket or its remnants are removed.

The piston group of the VAZ-2107 engine has a rather complex design. However, usually the pistons can be changed independently without dismantling the power unit. Piston wear manifests itself in the form of:

• exhaust color change to blue;
• increased fuel consumption;
• reduction in engine power.

The repair of the piston group itself is carried out in the following order.

1. Oil is drained from a warm engine.
2. The cylinder head and gasket are removed.

3. The timing drive tension is loosened.
4. The tensioner is disassembled.
   

   When repairing the piston group, it is necessary to loosen the tension of the timing drive
5. Camshaft gears are removed.
6. On the viewing hole or overpass, the engine protection is removed from below.
7. Remove the oil pump mounting bolts.

8. The connecting rods are loosened and the pistons are removed.
9. The pistons are disassembled - liners, rings and fingers are removed.

When purchasing new pistons, you should be guided by the data stamped on the bottom of worn products.

The following data is stamped on the bottom of the piston: 1 - piston class according to the pin hole; 2 - piston class by diameter; 3 - installation direction; 4 - repair size (the first repair size is a triangle, the second is a square); 5 - group by weight (normal weight "G", increased by 5 g - "plus", reduced by 5 g - "minus")

The caliper is designed to measure cylinders in three belts and two dimensions:

• the first belt is located at a distance of 15 mm from the upper boundary of the cylinder;
• at a distance of 45 mm from the upper boundary of the cylinder there is a second belt;
• the third belt is located at a distance of 80 mm from the upper boundary of the cylinder.

Usually they make a table in which they record the results of measurements of taper and ovality. Both of these values ​​should not exceed 0,02 mm. If the value is exceeded, the unit must be repaired. The calculated gap between the cylinder wall and the piston should be within 0,06 - 0,08 mm.

The pistons must match the cylinders - they must be of the same class.

Fingers are also divided into categories, each of which is marked with its own color:

• the first category is blue;
• the second category is green;
• the third category is red.

The difference in size between neighboring categories is 0,004 mm. You can check your finger as follows. It should be freely pressed by hand, and when installed in a vertical position, it should not fall.

When checking oil scraper rings, it should be borne in mind that the gap between them and the piston grooves, measured with a special probe, should not exceed 0,15 mm. A large gap indicates wear of the rings and the need to replace them.

Replacing the piston group is carried out as follows.

1. With the help of a mandrel, the piston and connecting rod are interconnected. First, a finger is put on, then the connecting rod is clamped in a vise. A piston is installed on it and the finger is pushed through. In this case, all elements must be generously lubricated with oil.
2. New rings are installed. First they are lubricated along with the grooves. Then, one oil scraper and two compression rings are installed on each piston (first the lower one, then the upper one).
3. With the help of a special crimp, the pistons are placed on the block.
4. With a light tap of a hammer, each piston is lowered into the cylinder.
5. The connecting rods are fitted with oil-lubricated bushings.
6. The ease of rotation of the crankshaft is checked.
7. The pallet with the replaced gasket is installed in place.
8. The cylinder head and timing drive are installed.
9. Oil is poured into the engine.
10. The operation of the engine is checked on a stationary vehicle.

Repair of the VAZ 2107 gearbox

On the latest modifications of the VAZ-2107, a five-speed manual transmission is installed. Box repair is necessary in the following cases.

1. Gear shifting is difficult. This may be due to the lack of oil in the box. Therefore, oil is first poured and the operation of the gearbox is checked. If the problem persists, the cause may be deformation of the lever itself or the internal elements of the box, as well as the appearance of burrs.
2. Gear shifts spontaneously while driving. This is usually due to worn ball holes or broken detent springs. Sometimes the synchronizer blocking ring wears out or the spring breaks.
3. The gearbox is leaking oil. This is usually caused by a loose clutch housing or worn oil seals.

To repair the gearbox you will need:

• circlip remover;
• a set of keys and screwdrivers;
• pliers;
• a hammer.

Rear axle repair

If a constant characteristic noise is heard from the side of the rear axle while driving, this is a sign of beam deformation. As a result, axles can also be damaged. If the parts cannot be straightened, they should be replaced.

On a VAZ 2107 with mileage, the cause of a malfunction of the rear axle can be the wear of the spline connection and side gears, as well as a lack of oil in the gearbox.

If the noise occurs only when the machine is accelerating, then the differential bearings are worn or incorrectly adjusted. It is necessary to replace the gearbox and damaged elements, then make a competent adjustment.

Overhaul of VAZ 2107

In some cases, the overhaul of the VAZ 2107 power unit can be partially carried out without dismantling it. Before starting work, thoroughly rinse the engine and engine compartment with a jet of water and dry. Without removing the motor, you can replace:

• crankcase seal;
• cuffs of both collectors;
• crankshaft seals;
• pump;
• generator;
• gasoline pump;
• carburetor.

The need for overhaul is determined by a specialist on a number of indicators. And the high mileage of the car does not always become the main reason for the capital, since low mileage does not exclude such repairs. In general, if maintenance is carried out correctly and regularly, the engine of the "seven" is able to reliably serve for a long time.

Overhaul involves the restoration of engine elements, as a result of which the technical parameters will correspond to the parameters of the new motor. To do this:

• the entire piston group changes;
• cylinders are bored;
• the crankshaft is polished;
• inserts are changed.

I remember how I got to the first overhaul of the engine through my own stupidity. Went out to the field. Ahead was a ravine, and I drove in my "seven". I could not go further up the hill, and I could not go back either. In general, the car is stuck, skidding. Then a friend came up, he was collecting something there - flowers or some kind of plants. He says: “You are doing it wrong, you need to give back, and then sharply forward. Let me sit down, and you push when it goes forward. Well, I agreed like a fool. The car skidded for about half an hour, no sense. He called a tractor, which he wanted to do before. Pulled out the car. I sat down and drove back home. A few meters later, a check flashed. It turns out, as I later found out, all the oil leaked during slipping. It's good that the tractor didn't go far. I had to take the car for a major overhaul with the replacement of a piston, shaft bore.

The need for overhaul is determined by the condition of the cylinder block and piston group. If most of the elements are well preserved, you can limit yourself to replacing individual parts. If even slight wear of the block is found, honing of the cylinders will be required.

Sometimes VAZ 2107 owners buy a repair kit that includes a re-ground crankshaft and a piston group set. Also, for overhaul, it is recommended to purchase an incomplete cylinder block. Since the gaps are not offset in this case, it will be quite easy to replace the block. However, most often you have to buy a full-fledged cylinder block, including an oil pump, sump, cylinder head, etc.

It is recommended to disassemble the internal combustion engine at a professional stand, having previously removed the flywheel and clutch assembly. If there is no such stand, the dismantled engine is firmly fixed and only then its repair begins.

Usually, a major overhaul of the VAZ-2107 engine involves:

• disassembly of the cylinder head, followed by cleaning and checking;
• inspection of rocker arms and valves;
• repair or grinding of valves;
• dismantling of pistons and connecting rods;
• dismantling the crankshaft;
• checking the condition of the cylinder block and cleaning it;
• camshaft check;
• inspection of bearings and checking them for play;
• removal and installation of rings;
• clearance check;
• inspection of seals and their replacement.
