Test: Dacia Dokker dCi 90, laureate

Although Dacia assures that Dokkers will be the focus of the craftsmen (be careful, delivery is already available for 6.400 euros without VAT) and that there will be less demand for the passenger version, it seems to us that many people are planning to buy the Kangoo Will, at least went into the living room and looked at Docker. A lot of numbers speak in favor of the latter, and in favor of Kangoo - the range of equipment, the choice of materials and engines.

Let's leave the comparison aside and focus only on the Dacia. Okay, this Dokker isn't going to win a beauty pageant, but he's also less conspicuous in his looks to keep people terrified. Of course, usability and roominess are the guiding principles when designing such limousine minibuses, so it would not be an insult to say that they are boxy.

We at the Auto store are always happy with sliding doors. Entering, exiting, attaching and unfastening children is a strong point of this vehicle, along with a pair of sliding doors (only right-hand sliding doors are standard on Ambiance entry equipment). There is also a hinged tailgate, which comes in handy if there is little room to open. There is enough space on the back bench (which cannot move longitudinally), not to mention the top one.

Therefore, it is a little less clear that with all the abundance of space at the front pair of seats, several centimeters of longitudinal movement have been pinched off, which will be especially felt by long-legged passengers. With a base volume of 800 liters, the luggage compartment is so convincing that we didn't even try to put the test cases inside, but simply wrote technical data to swallow the whole set. By lowering the back bench, you can even inflate the sleeping pillow inside.

Of course, we did not expect above-standard materials in the interior. The plastic feels hard to the touch, and even the big box at the top of the dashboard is useless for all the things that can move back and forth during turns. The main advantage with the general ignobleness is the central multimedia system. Although this is a fairly new thing that has been built into Renault and Dacia lately, we already know it quite well. Ease of use through a simple user interface and a fairly satisfactory navigation system are the main advantages of this multimedia device.

However, Dokker has some disadvantages that we have noticed in other Dacia models in the past: the levers on the steering wheel are difficult to move between different positions, the engine speed meter is without a red field, and the scale is up to 7.000 rpm (diesel!) lights up in the back because the daytime running lights only work in the front, there is no automatic opening of the windows at the touch of a button, there is no outside temperature sensor ...

Dokker has plenty of storage space. The already mentioned box in the upper part of the dashboard is gluttonous; not far from the front passenger, in addition to the classic box, there is a small shelf, and the "pockets" in the door are quite large. Undoubtedly, the useful box above the heads of the front passengers should not be overlooked. Because of the size of the shelf, you won't be surprised if someone thinks of putting your baby to rest right there.

"Our" Dokker with a 1,5-litre 66kW turbodiesel and Laureate equipment was the leader of the offer in the price list. The engine paired with the five-speed gearbox is a great choice at highway speeds where it runs out a bit. We wanted a little more precision when shifting out of the gearbox, but not obsessed with shift speed in day-to-day traffic.

Understandably, the Dokker is comfortable to handle rather smoothly, as the chassis is also tuned for a slightly poorer road. Also, due to the longer wheelbase, short bumps will be much less noticeable while driving.

Equipped in this way, the Docker is hard to blame. However, it should be noted that in addition to the higher level of equipment "our" car had quite a lot of accessories from the list of additional equipment. Although ESP is not available for standard equipment, the Slovenian dealer has decided not to sell such vehicles. So a supplement of 250 euros "at the start" is required. We support this move in favor of security, but we do not support advertising at the lowest price without including a "must" markup.

If you prefer Kangoo when purchasing a Dokker, constant patience with some of the above disadvantages is a must. However, if you think that you will constantly think that for a little more money you could be transported by a more complex car with the same design, then you should consider buying a Kangoo.

Overall rating (287/420)

  • Spaciousness and price are the main trump cards with which Dokker mixes with competitors. The fact that material savings have been achieved is still being devoured. We do not in any way agree that we should pay extra for ESP, which should be legalized as a mandatory equipment of every car.

  • Exterior (6/15)

It is not good to stand out in the opposite direction, but this should not be feared.

  • Interior (94/140)

Extremely spacious cabin with huge boot, but slightly inferior materials.

  • Engine, transmission (44

    / 40)

The right engine for most needs. The power steering lacks a sense of communication with the driver.

  • Driving performance (50

    / 95)

The position is quite good, and the body is not the most favorable for crosswinds.

  • Performance (23/35)

Up to speeds that are still legal, he has nothing to complain about.

  • Security (23/45)

The optional ESP system and four airbags solve many problems.

  • Economy (47/50)

He loses points under the warranty, but gains in price.
