Test drive Opel Astra 1.5 Diesel

At first glance, it’s hard to understand the whole depth of the changes that the updated Opel Astra brings, because in the case of its appearance, the leaders of the German company used the well-known saying that “the winning team does not change that”!

Although there are some changes, there are still. “The Opel Astra 2020 received a modified front bumper and new rims, with major changes taking place under the hood. According to the company, the station wagon of the 2020 model year is 19% more efficient than the previous model thanks to the new 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline turbo engines and 1.5-liter four-cylinder “diesels”. A new 9-speed “automatic” contributed to the efficiency of the model.

What has changed under the hood?

The company said the brand new station wagon of 2020 is 19% more efficient than the previous model. This indicator was achieved thanks to the new three-cylinder gasoline turbo engines with volumes of 1.2 liters and a 1.5 liter four-cylinder diesel engine. And of course, you can’t be silent about the fact that a 9-speed automatic transmission was installed in Opel.

Since our test dive is dedicated specifically to diesel, it is worth noting that it is available in two versions: 105 hp and 260 Nm, 122 hp and 300 Nm.

In the basic configuration, “diesel” is combined only with a six-speed “mechanics”, a new nine-speed “automatic” is optionally available for a more powerful unit. In this case, the maximum torque is 285 Nm. Average fuel consumption - 4.4 l / 100 k.

What has changed in the cabin?

This version has the following dimensions:

length - 4370-4702 mm. (hatchback / station wagon);

ground clearance - 150 mm.

The interior of the new Opel is equipped with a virtual speedometer (a display that justifies the center of the analog dashboard and shows the speed with an arrow and numbers). There is also a central 8-inch multimedia display - a system equipped with an even more powerful processor. It displays images from new rear view cameras that have received a higher resolution. Of the important functions: heated windshield and wireless charging module for gadgets. Also, for an extra charge, the original upholstery of soft chairs with contrasting stitching may appear in the cabin.

It should be added that the updated version is equipped with a new front camera that recognizes vehicles, pedestrians and road signs. The rear view camera and three multimedia versions to choose from: Multimedia Radio, Multimedia Navi and Multimedia Navi Pro have been modernized. The latter features an eight-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and a new instrument cluster with digital speedometer.
