Test: Ducati Scrambler 1100

The Ducati Scrambler is a very special Ducati. Three years ago, Bologna decided to offer buyers motorcycles that would not focus on performance and the latest technological solutions, but on a motorcycle for everyday trips. A bike that - even if it only has an engine, two wheels, a handlebar and everything - just takes over. You know, a quarter of a century ago, the famous engineer Galluzzi came up with his own Monsters.

If, at the time of its creation, the Monster had been what a modern Marlon Brando would have chosen, today it is the Ducati Scrambler. Thanks to clever marketing and a beautiful motorcycle, the Italians in the world of scramblers literally overnight created a new brand - Scrambler.

But the time came when two members of the Scrambler family desperately needed a third. More powerful and above all more. The Scrambler 1100 is actually a logical continuation of history. First, after three years, the first customers of their Scrambler have outgrown and want more. Secondly, at a time when the economy is booming, many of us think of another motorcycle, but this one should be different from every angle. And third, similar but more powerful bikes have competition.

Every time someone introduces a new, larger model, motorcyclists inadvertently focus on power and performance. Compared to the older and smaller 1100cc model, the Scrambler 803 performed poorly compared to the older and smaller XNUMXcc model. 20 kilograms and not so specific 13 'horses'so many have wondered if a newbie can bring something more to the family. But those who knew that the meaning and essence of such motorcycles were hidden elsewhere were absolutely right. Back to the roots? Scrambler can do it, the question is, can you do it.

The Scrambler has created its own motorcycle identity and the Scrambler 1100 has taken it to the next level without the slightest doubt. First, it is significantly larger compared to its smaller twin. Only place on average four inches wider, and the wheelbase is longer by 69 millimetersSo, obviously, the big Scrambler is now also a spacious and relatively comfortable bike.

But before it all began, the air-cooled engine had to be reanimated, which we feared Ducati had forgotten. Iconic Diary with a volume of 1.079 cubic meters. at one time he rode the Monster, which has always been considered one of the dampest motorcycles. If not, don't forget that this air-cooled engine in its golden days barely surpassed the hundred "horsepower" limit, so the 86 "horsepower" Scrambler when tightening the neck due to the standard Euro4 actually a great result. Despite the understanding that competitors on this topic offer more powerful models, I did not miss and did not need a little more engine power during the test. The beauty of this engine is not hidden, but literally swells up from the liquid supply in all driving modes. It is least suited for driving at the highest revs, and at low revs the pulsation of the two-cylinder is very pronounced but pleasant. For those who prefer mid-high revs, this mechanical engine gem written on the skin.

God forbid both of the smaller scramblers are not a great bike capable of meeting rider expectations, but the largest member of the family in terms of performance, ergonomics, and modern electronics. far surpasses... First, the Scrambler 1100 is equipped with ABS bends-om, four-stage rear wheel slip control and three different engine modes (Active, Journey, City). The dashboard is also richer and more transparent, with the addition of an oval speedometer, which gives more room for more data on the main round element and “More” trip computer... When it comes to menu navigation and on-screen display, I see a lot of room for improvement in Scrambler. For example, I was missing an outside temperature sensor and some additional key to simplify the management of the entire information system. But this is all that motorcyclists rarely use when we find the most appropriate setting.

But because of all this, the Scrambler was good for me every time I drove, perfectly feeling the brake lever, the gurgling and crackling of the two mufflers. Despite the expectation that it will blow hard at higher speeds, the Scrambler surprised me. It blows even harder than I expected and I'm used to classic bikes without clothes.

I think the Ducati Scrambler 1100 is one of the prettiest bikes of its kind, but there are certainly some that don't fit the look. But as far as workmanship and details are concerned, The scrambler does not disappoint... You won't find a superficiality or a component on it that at least wouldn't be thoughtfully attached if it didn't have anything special about it. A deeper look also reveals a set of excellent components, radially mounted Brembo brakes and fully adjustable suspension. I also like the lettering built into the round headlight. Xwhich symbolizes the decals affixed to the headlights of their motorcycles by amateur riders in the 70s. I also love that it only has five large plastic parts. One is the air filter housing, and on the Special with aluminum fenders, only three parts are plastic. You see, the Ducati Scrambler is also one of the best from this point of view. However, this justifies its price.

Today, people are more and more eager to return to their roots, at least in their free time. And the Ducati Scrambler 1100 is definitely a bike that can do it and is ready to help you with it. He will not force you to rush, although he can act quickly. It won't force you to cover kilometers, but the ones that you drive, even if only to the first farm above your house, will be relaxing and soothing. This is a motorcycle that invites you to ride every time. If you live at a busy and too fast pace, you must have it. Also, if you are phlegmatic and a pleasure lover by nature. Point.
