Test: Ford Mondeo Wagon 1.6 Ecoboost (118 kW) Titanium

If the name of any car does not contain the words “eco”, “blue”, “green”, etc., it means that the brand is simply not “ours”.

How does a relatively small gas station work in a large Mondeo?

There are quite a lot of repairs behind the wheel The world (compared to the previous model, there should be 13 percent new parts) it quickly becomes clear that the car comes from Germany, and not from Western Europe or Asia or the USA: the seats (drivers are electrically adjustable only in height, the rest of the movements are done manually) are quite firm but well formed and with satisfactory lateral and lumbar grip. The Titanium X and Titanium S include multi-stage heated and cooled front seats, which are a welcome addition on cold and hot days. A person quickly gets used to (and gets used to) (

The switches on both the steering wheel and the dashboard, as well as the steering wheel levers, require one millionth more force and therefore deserve very good marks. I would write great, but they don't deserve it because of a few minor inconveniences: the small rotary knobs for two-way temperature control are metal and very smooth, so you need to hold them with two fingers; however, the buttons next to the Sony radio screen on the center console are shallow and only respond to pressure from outside (as if attached to hinges).

The entire dashboard is made of soft, pleasant material and decorated with metal elements. They blend nicely with Ford's dynamic and prestigious character and don't act as cheap, kitschy additions the way they do in cheaper cars with chromed plastics inside. The materials and workmanship are generally very good, but the pickpockets found inaccurate contact between the dashboard and the A-pillar and slightly imprecise seams on the rear (invisible) part of the steering wheel.

In much the same way, he sits on the back of the (also rigid) bench. It has a hidden armrest in the backrest with shallow storage and a double cup holder, while the rear passengers were provided with separate ventilation through slots in the B-pillars and a 12-volt outlet with ashtray between the front seats. The seat at the rear of the bench tilts forward if necessary to increase the volume of luggage, after which a third of the folding backrest can be folded and transform the luggage compartment into a bed (or into a space that a moped can easily swallow). Both are verified.

At the same time, we have to praise the low cargo edge of the trunk, automatic roll, roominess (549 or 1.740 liters with the rear seat folded down) and hooks that could be bigger, stronger, more secure. Don't look for the spare wheel under the rear mat as it has been replaced with a puncture repair kit and the space has been filled with a subwoofer. The sound of the radio (either from a USB dongle or from a portable music media that we plug in in the remote driver's box in front of the navigator) is very good.

The engine was hidden behind a new hood EcoBoost... Electric, hybrid, gas? Nothing of the sort, just a naturally aspirated 1,6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine. Compared to the naturally aspirated Duratec, it can produce 40 horses and 80 Newton meters more, emits one gram less of the terribly toxic CO2 and at the same time uses the same amount in combined driving and even a deciliter less fuel in the city. So technical data, what about practice?

There is no 1,6-liter gasoline engine Mondeo test in our online archive, as we have mostly driven only diesels in recent years, so we cannot make a specific comparison. However, we can say that the “ecoboost” consumed more in the test: from 9,2 to 11,2 liters. At a normal driving pace, the trip computer consumed about eight liters, but we doubt you will ever be able to go that slow at all. Not only does the engine react softly and decisively enough at low revs, but its breath doesn't reach the red field and soft lockup at 6.500 rpm. This is why the Mondeo is no stranger to a more dynamic ride.

Only with quick changes of direction and hard braking will you feel like sitting in a large and heavy one and a half ton car. The chassis is excellent, the traction control system is barely noticeable, and the steering mechanism (for this class) transfers information very well from under the tires to the palm of your hand. In fact, this is too much: on a bumpy road, the steering wheel tends to follow the ground, so it requires the strength of both hands. This is due to the wide tires. If not sooner, you will feel them under heavy rainfall as they love to have an abortion.

Can we blame him? Nothing significant. And it's beautiful in every way. Personal taste up or down - judging by the eyes, it can compete with no more than some Alpha, otherwise we can certainly classify it as more beautiful "caravans".
