Test: Honda CB 500XA (2020) // A Window on the World of Adventure

I can easily say that my childhood was completely motorcycle as I spent most of my life on a motocross motorcycle and I gradually get used to the road. I took the A2 exam for almost two years, and during that time I tried quite a few different models.... That said, I am in awe of every road bike test and that hasn't changed even when I first met the Honda CB500XA. Many argue that such fear is even welcome, as it makes drivers more cautious and, above all, more thoughtful.

Even after the introductory kilometers that Honda and I spent together, I completely relaxed and began to enjoy the ride, which was by far the most influenced by the exceptional handling.Because when I was riding, I had the feeling that the bike itself was going into a turn. It also pleasantly surprised me at higher speeds as it keeps it calm and the windshield, which offers good wind protection, also contributes a lot to comfort.

Adjustment is quick and easy with just one hand, so you can adjust the height to suit your size and preference. However, I really liked the power of the engine. My main goal here is that this is enough when I need it, but still not enough that the gas is a little afraid to compress. If I translate this into numbers, the Honda CB500XA at full load is capable of developing 47 "horsepower" at 8.600 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6.500 rpm.... The engine itself, combined with a very precise drivetrain, provides an acceleration pleasure that is difficult to replace.

I also found a very good seat that, thanks to its beautiful shape, provides driving comfort, and I have no comment even on the brakes as they provide precise braking. A big plus is the ABS anti-lock braking system, which provides additional safety during hard braking.... Although there is only one brake disc in front, I can say that it is in no way disappointing and is on the level that we would expect from a mature motorcycle, but it certainly does not fall into the category of sports performance.

I have noticed that while driving, I pay a lot of attention to what is happening behind me, relying on the mirrors, which are very well designed and positioned in this Honda. While driving, I also looked into the dashboard several times, which offers all the key information, but in sunny weather, it happened several times that I saw not the best on the screen under certain lighting conditions... However, at times I also missed turning off the turn signals automatically, as it quickly happens that after turning, you forget to turn off the turn signals, which can be quite inconvenient as well as dangerous.

Best of all, I didn't even mention the two main advantages of the Honda CB500XA. The first of these is the look, where elegance and reliability are intertwined, and the second is the price, since in the basic version you will deduct only 6.990 euros.... The bike is great for training, very unpretentious and big enough to ride a little further with a passenger in the back seat.

Face to face: Petr Kavchich

It was this model that I liked many years ago when it appeared on the market. It still retains this playfulness while driving, which at the same time guarantees fun and pleasant kilometers on the road, as well as on gravel roads. I would also be happy to embrace an adventure performance on stronger suspension and spoked wheels. For beginners and anyone who especially loves to ride without fear, this is the perfect motorcycle in the ADV category.
