Test: Škoda Octavia Combi RS 2.0 TDI 4X4 DSG. Who would be…

The all-wheel drive Octavia Combi RS is definitely an interesting car. Large, modern and safe, tested even in green, indicating a long (racing) history, but something is missing. Yes, you guessed it, we lacked the right engine.

As a child, I enjoyed the test. Eco-friendly as the Czech Republic should be, mounted on 19-inch aluminum wheels, this motorhome will satisfy both the passing aesthete and the energetic father or demanding partner who always ensures the safety of the family purchase. “Yes, dear, he even has four-wheel drive,” he probably would have hammered right into the nail.

What other words would have convinced her? It has a family trunk and a dual-clutch DSG gearbox where the lousy clutch can be forgotten, and above all, I would probably tempt him by having a turbo diesel engine under the hood. You know, the wives of those who sometimes like to press the gas pedal are always afraid for us, so I can only imagine how she will say at the end, laughing slightly: “You have finally come to your senses!”. The fact is that buying a sports car has nothing to do with rational decision, although the Škoda Octavia Combi RS 2.0 TDI 4 × 4 DSG will be at the top of the sober shopping list. With an average consumption of 7,8 liters per 100 kilometers, or a whopping 5,7 liters on our standard lap with the ECO program enabled (and after the speed limit and always gentle acceleration), it easily attracts the family budget, and of course the all-wheel drive. Provides excellent grip on dry, wet or even snowy ground. It's a shame we didn't get this Octavia in the middle of winter, preferably in a snowy fairytale, since I would most likely join those who are doing nonsense in a large empty parking lot ...

The road position is enviable despite the larger trunk, the shell seats keep the bodies on the landing surfaces (which is not uncomfortable at all!), only the engine somehow doesn't deserve the RS name. There is nothing in it, it offers 135 kilowatts or about 180 “horses”, but there is no torque that would cause a jerk in the back and would always pleasantly surprise the driver when he stops breathing for a few seconds at full throttle and smiles. It's not slow, but now every second turbodiesel on Slovenian roads is so fast, if you understand me. And even the sportier sound from the Canton speakers doesn't put us in a good mood! So we're still of the opinion that the 2.0 TSI is better suited to the RS, which we measured at Raceland a few years ago with a 0,65 second best lap - but it didn't have all wheel drive at all!

The test Octavia Combi RS was already well stocked with standard equipment as well as a long list of accessories. Active cruise control, alarm, electric tailgate, electric sliding panoramic sunroof, smart key, reversing camera, lane assist, navigation, heated front seats, major traffic sign recognition, leather upholstery and driver fatigue recognition are attracted. but the price rises from the basic 32.424 € 41.456 to 350 €. Hey, is it possible for this money to get a XNUMX-strong four-wheel drive Ford Focus RS ?!
