Test: Moto Morini 9 1/2 // Moto Morini 9 1/2: mirror image

The Italian legend of the XNUMX's, which in the heyday of the last "Europeans" resisted the breakthrough of aggressive "Japanese", was revived last year by members of the founding family. Given the success that MV Agusta has been pursuing for almost a decade, this was an anticipated event that would come later than before.

And that was last year, when the 140 “horsepower” of the powerful Corsaro 1200 roadster with its 87 cubic meter twin-cylinder (1.187°) engine and many small details is a perfect example of the Italian school of design. was shown on restart. At the time, they also announced a quieter, somewhat classic bike that was to be labeled 9 1/2, following in the footsteps of the legendary 3 1/2 that was even featured in the song.

The name does not mean that it is powered by a 950cc engine. See This is an equally engineered unit that can easily handle 200 "horses" on a test bench at the Bologna plant (perhaps for a 1.200 cubic meter superbike that sparrows in Italy have already written about). For motorcycle riders, for whom the 9 1/2 is intended, they only slightly calmed his pulse and reduced the power to 117 "horsepower", and most importantly increased the torque at the lowest revs. A whopping 90 percent of the 102 Nm torque is achieved at 2.700 rpm. Interesting, right? Has the BMW R gotten a fair competition?

Yes, of course, although it is not necessary that the people who choose between the Italian and the German product are the same, but it is good that someone managed to make a really good two-cylinder liter unit.

Morini has such a pleasant engine that a person inadvertently drives another kilometer more than they originally planned. This is what happened to us.

The fall foliage was already spinning heavily from the gusts of wind when we first rode it and felt the pleasant velvet hum of the Morini Bialber Corsacort. Unfortunately, we don't know if the former Morinis were so polished because we're too young to experience it first-hand, but their suggestion to optimize this device for everyday use still seems out of place. If the Corsaro 1200 already requires an experienced driver (you can read more about this model and our impressions in one of the following issues), then at 9 1/2 the opposite is true.

Everything this bike does is very reassuring. So it sits. Behind a really wide, high-quality handlebar that won't protect any cross or enduro, it sits relaxed, upright and ergonomic. While the 800mm seat height from the ground isn't quite for the smallest riders, tall, medium and small riders alike will feel good on it. This gives a good feel and makes the motorcycle much easier to operate. Moreover, as can be seen in the photo, the seat is comfortable and softly rounded even where there is room for a passenger. This one will sit perfectly on him.

Our colleague, who expressed his opinion, only lacked the side handles for a more reliable grip. Well, it will keep the driver a little tighter, which is also not bad, isn't it? Moto Morini also offers the aforementioned side handles, heated handles, windshield, 25 liter side bags and the like in the accessories list.

In short, there is a lot of comfort, and therefore a relaxed posture requires a more relaxed ride. At speeds above 160 kilometers per hour, holding the steering wheel becomes a real struggle, it blows so hard in the chest. Surprisingly, however, even at top speed, without any wind protection, the bike runs calmly and follows the set line precisely. Not everyone can do it!

At these speeds, a really purposeful athletic posture helps the arms a bit. At an enviably high speed of 243 kilometers per hour, as much as the meter showed on a flat part of the asphalt, more than a minute of persistence in this position is already a huge effort. No wind protection. Nobody! That's why straight 9 1/2 likes winding back roads where speeds don't go over 130 or 140 mph. It can easily take turns there. The frame, engine, and suspension form an above-average unit that doesn't cause more dissatisfaction. To be finicky, the transmission could be a little softer, and the rear shock could be softer to swallow short, quick bumps from the rear wheel over bumps in the road.

But in the same breath we can't hide our enthusiasm for the shiny spoked spokes (although the bike is shod with excellent sports classic Pirelli tires without a tube), which today is not only a rarity, but also uniqueness, over transparent. fittings with sensors and a rich on-board computer. over mirrors, which are proof that even small and neatly designed can provide excellent rear visibility, and over brakes, which are soft yet firm enough to respond to lever presses to force a safe stop.

If this is a new image of Morini, we admit that we like it very much. Its mirror image in the sea in front of Piran is a rather vague memory of a once glorious past.
