And, of course, Opel realized that in this bloody battle, they also needed freshly forged weapons. They created a new group of vehicles, which was given the name X. We already knew Mokka, we get to know Crossland X, and along the way we meet the head of the company - Grandland X.

While everyone would say the Crossland family ties stem from the Mokka, Opel says it is the successor to the Meriva in terms of ancestry. Mokka buyers are said to be more active people, while the Crossland X is sought after by families who see the benefits of crossovers everywhere rather than in the field.

Therefore, they should mainly focus on the flexibility and usability of the passenger compartment, which was also on the list of priorities when designing the car. The use of a cab in a 4,2 meter vehicle is Crossland's biggest advantage. While there shouldn't be a shortage of space up front, the Crossland X also takes good care of rear passengers. In addition to the fact that the bench moves longitudinally by 15 centimeters and is divided in a ratio of 60:40, there is also a lot of space above the heads of passengers. The ISOFIX clamps are easily accessible and children will have a good view of the outside thanks to the low glass edge. The comfort of the driver and front passenger is largely provided by the excellent seats, which are a mixture of French comfort and German strength. Tall people will be pleased with the spacious footrests in the form of an extended seating area, and the lower ones will be pleased with the high seating position and good visibility in all directions. There is still plenty of luggage space for passengers, as the adjustable trunk offers between 410 and 1.255 liters of space.

Much has been done in terms of practicality: in addition to the Crossland X providing plenty of storage space, it also takes good care of man's best friend. That's right, for a smartphone you'll find two USB ports on the front, wireless charging capability, and connectivity to a central multimedia system is excellent as it can be connected via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Opel customers accustomed to the classic IntelliLink system will look a little odd otherwise, as the selector in the Crossland X is slightly different from what they are used to. Since the Opel Crossland X is the result of a joint development with the PSA Group, the French side was in charge of this equipment. Maybe this is correct, because we will still give preference to the French in terms of transparency and how they are used. Unfortunately, this concept of cooperation also has disadvantages, as the use of the otherwise excellent Opel OnStar support system is limited. Although the said system has now been upgraded with the ability to search for a free parking space and overnight stay, it is not possible to enter the destination remotely as the system is clearly incompatible with the French version of the navigation device.

The working area around the driver is well coordinated in terms of ergonomics. While the entire infotainment part is "stored" in the aforementioned eight-inch screen system, the air conditioning part remains classic. Such are the counters in front of the driver, which, with the exception of the central part, which displays data from the on-board computer, remain completely analog. The "analog" is also the handbrake lever, which can be slowly moved towards the switch, thereby saving space on the middle lug. Among the interfering elements, we would also like to highlight the steering wheel heating switch, which is located as a central switch on the left side of the steering wheel. It's a little awkward when you accidentally turn on the steering wheel heating by 30 degrees plus ...

Despite the high body and emphasized off-road character, driving the Crossland X on all road surfaces is a completely enjoyable experience. The chassis is tuned for a comfortable ride, communication between the steering wheel and the bike is well established, the car pleasantly “swallows” bumps and short bumps. The real gem is the 1,2-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which has already been approved in many PSA Group models. It impresses with its smooth running, quiet operation and high torque. A slightly smaller usable powerband requires a bit more effort with the excellent six-speed manual transmission, but following traffic is all the more satisfying as the Crossland X doesn't scare even a freeway fast lane. . We're used to this small turbocharged petrol engine's fuel consumption being a double-edged sword, but the Crossland X didn't go above 7 liters even when cruising faster, while on our standard lap it took just 5,3 liters of fuel. per 100 km.

Since the crossover market is quite saturated, Opel also needed a tempting price for the Crossland X to fight it off. The price per eye is set at 14.490 € 18.610 and belongs to the entry-level model. But the petrol turbocharged model with the best Innovation equipment package is not too far off that number, as it is priced at € 20. If you add some additional equipment to this and at the same time subtract a possible discount, it will be difficult to exceed the limit of XNUMX thousand. Well, that's already a good battle plan for the modern Crusade.

Overall rating (343/420)

  • The Opel Crossland X is the car that encourages families to move from the Meriva to something that is still a family car, but noble

with all goods brought by the class of hybrids.

  • Exterior (11/15)

Too little original to be expressive, but at the same time too similar to Mokka.

  • Interior (99/140)

A good selection of materials and equipment, excellent capacity and ease of use.

  • Engine, transmission (59

    / 40)

The turbocharged three-cylinder engine is a great choice for the Crossland X. The rest of the drivetrain is good too.

  • Driving performance (61

    / 95)

Safe on the road, comfortable chassis adjustment and ease of use.

  • Performance (29/35)

Turbocharged engines get points for flexibility and acceleration is good too.

  • Security (36/45)

Perhaps Crossland X avoids some technological solutions, but this does not mean that there are no modern active safety systems.

  • Economy (48/50)

The price is one of the main advantages of the Crossland X.
