Test: Regent Road L 4 × 4

A good € 96.000 should be deducted for such a test. “And you get woody green for that? “Issued by one of my colleagues when I found out about the number. Let me reassure you, you choose the color yourself, and its palette is as rich as other Sprinters.

However, for those who are seriously considering Regent, I dare say that the color is one of the last things on their wish list. After all, don't buy a Regent to put on makeup or stand in front of other motorhome owners - though the real connoisseurs among them will quickly spot you - but to get as far away from them and their surroundings as possible.

With this in mind, they got down to business at La Strada. By the way, price the base car stops at our dealer for just under € 47.000. Yes, a Mercedes four-wheel drive van is so expensive. But at the same time, it is one of the few that offers such an opportunity, and it is also well done.

When it comes to ergonomics and technology, No pair for the sprinter. And those who spend a lot of time in minibuses know this well. Even a superficial glance does not yet reveal this. The dashboard and the rest of the interior are much closer to the interior of real trucks than cars.

Only when you start using things around you will you realize how thoughtful and perfect they are. Everything you are looking for or need is at your fingertips. This also applies to the thoughtful installation of the gear lever, and the position of the steering wheel. The seat is widely adjustable and comfortable – even if you (sit) in it for several hours.

Turbo diesel engine, which powered the test Regent, is a four-cylinder engine, and although the 315 CDI label was still hanging on the tailgate, the engines have been refurbished since mid-year: they are now cleaner, more powerful, more fuel efficient and have been relabeled. - he answered the driver's commands and advertised as politely as we are accustomed to six-cylinder engines.

To this, however, should be added at the end rich package active and passive safety, all-wheel drive (mainly driving rear wheels) and gearbox. Be that as it may, you can trust us that at the moment there is no better vans for these needs.

But please don't equate the word "better" with comfort. You won't miss anything in Regent, you don't need to be afraid of it. Moreover, many solutions will even surprise you. But if you compare its interiors to the interiors of other motorhomes that are listed with it, you might be disappointed.

Lastrad's flagship is built to serve. And he does not hide it - both outside and inside. Furniture architecture the power is simple, but immense at the same time. Passengers enter the cabin through a sliding door, where they are greeted by a bench in L, a turntable and exactly the same front seats.

The day corner can easily accommodate four adults, these four will be less comfortable on the way, although it has four homologated seats for transporting people, and, at least at night, like a bed that rises from the living area or. the dining room offers just 100 inches of width.

Behind the dining area, it opens to the back. spacious kitchen with a three-burner stove, a sink with a mixer, a 90-liter refrigerator and a bunch of useful cabinets. But beware, they are also the only ones in the Regent, which means that in addition to the food and drink that you plan to carry with you, they will also have to swallow clothes, shoes (well, you can put them in the drawers on the bottom) and all other little things. ...

Since the Regent is less than six meters long, chest, which is usually offered from behind, you do not expect. This is where the toilet found its place - in fact, a real bathroom! Lastrad's designers measured the entire width (very generously, nothing), which means there's a space behind the sliding door where the chemical toilet and sink are on the left, and a perfectly real shower stall on the right.

The incorrigible adventurers who don't travel at all for less than a month will say that they would rather have a luggage compartment in the back rather than a spacious bathroom. And you will have to agree with them, because due to the high height, the possible storage of luggage in suitcases on the roof is not recommended and not convenient.

If only because you bought the Regent 4 × 4, not least in order to discover those corners of the world that are inaccessible to most others. This means that you won't drive it often on paved roads, right? As for this chapter, La Strada has proven that they have the right mobile home for you.

The Sprinter is surprisingly light, stiff and manoeuvrable on all surfaces, considering its length, weight and height. Well, the limitations do exist, so it's wise to consider them, but the optional floor-to-floor all-wheel drive that can be engaged while driving and the gearbox quickly show that the Regent can go even further. than many passenger cars. That we don't waste words on motorhomes at all.

In doing so, they stop him at the most. TIRESthat are not off-road (all-season Continental vehicles were installed on the test), height (in terms of passages below three meters) and the determination of the owner, how deeply he will go into the unknown.

However, how long you stay out of civilization with Regent is entirely up to you and your energy consumption. Clean water tank similar in size to most other campervans (100 liters), the fuel tank holds 75 liters, for gas they provide space for storing one 11 kg and one five kg cylinder, and the amount of food and drinks will greatly limit the size of the kitchen cabinets.

But if you are not in the real test, it is already clear to you that the Regent L 4x4 offers almost everything you are looking for for yourself and your adventures.

evaluation

  • Even if you are passionate about motorhomes, it is not enough for the regent to convince you. It is designed for a special type of people who like to roam but don't like camping. They prefer to spend their free time away from civilization and discover hidden corners of the world there. Freedom, which is not exactly cheap, but, as they prove in La Strada, is clearly worth the money.
