The A3 has always been one of the most coveted (albeit out of reach for most Slovenian car buyers) models – and the refurbishment has rejuvenated it enough to easily last until the next model arrives.

Externally, the A3 wagon version, i.e. Sportback, remains the most visually appealing trio. The trunk is not huge, but the evenness of the rear window already proves that this was not even the intention of the designers. They gave it a bit more luggage space than the classic A3 (meaning it's plenty for family use), but at the same time they wanted to keep it in shape - and their mission was successful. With redesigned headlights and a mask, the A3 also received slightly sportier features.

But while the looks are nice and consistent, that's not the point of this car. The essence is hidden under the skin. The 3-litre TDI (although the acronym has taken on a negative connotation lately) is a great choice for the A3, only the soundproofing could be a little better. Paired with a dual-clutch DSG, this is a transmission that has no issues with mass-moving or A150 flow. 4,4 “horsepower” is enough for a decently lively drive, and with 3 liters on a standard lap, the AXNUMX test proved that low fuel costs do not mean that driving should be extremely slow and that the driver is the object of anger. other road users. Even on a much busier ride than our standard lap (when we drive with limits and keep the pace of the rest of the traffic as we accelerate), it's hard to get over six liters. But on the other hand: in everyday use, the e-tron plug-in hybrid will be even more economical.

We've known for a long time that it sits well in the A3, especially in the automatic model, where we easily miss the clutch pedal with the classically too long travel typical of Audi models with a manual transmission. New is the improved MMI system, which puts infotainment content in the A3 on par with that in the larger Audi. It's the same with driver assistance systems, but since most of them belong to the list of additional equipment, the price can be noticeably high. The test A3 had LED headlights, traffic jam assist (which also means active cruise control and lane departure warning), automatic braking with pedestrian detection, a rearview camera, fully digital sensors, and a variety of comfort and visual accessories. from base 33 to more than 50 thousand. Of course, you can afford a properly equipped A3 Sportback for about 10 thousand cheaper, only the beauty kit (S line package, leather and Alcantara seats with massage, etc.) will have to be abandoned.

The A3 can be quite affordable, but Audi also has to pay more for extras - and the test A3 was loaded with just about everything possible.

evaluation

  • Audi A3 for those who can afford it,

still a great choice in a smaller class

premium cars. But instead of diesel there are many

the best choice of plug-in hybrid e-tron, which however

it should be noted that it has a richer serial number

the technique is also noticeably more powerful and more expensive.
