Joint cooperation Subaru in Toyota Of course, there's nothing wrong with giving Subaru more than just a badge on the nose and steering wheel and lettering on the back. But Subaru is a modest player in the automotive industry, so it shares some (small) cars. Once at Daihatsu, today at Toyota. The new “partner” is a big step forward, no doubt.

So don't be surprised if you share the name alongside the upcoming rear-wheel-drive coupe. ToyobaruAlthough it is Trezia just a nice city car, to which only a rigidly mounted rear bench (instead of a much more useful longitudinally movable one) can be attributed as a big disadvantage, nothing special.

We understand each other, not even Subaru. It doesn't have the characteristic boxer engine sound, it doesn't have all-wheel drive, it doesn't even have an automatic transmission. So there is nothing to make it more expensive, which is good again.

While behind the wheel, you'll be grateful for the more angular body touches that, despite it lacking parking sensors, you can soon find space frames. Casual observers will most likely notice the interesting subdued fog and reversing lights at first, and the passenger only has a single front wiper.

The ease of use of the interior will be even more impressive, as the already large trunk (with additional space in the basement) in the enlarged version offers a completely flat bottom. You can also change the trunk from the rear, as the trunk has useful levers that can be used to fold the rear bench. Twin driving position Toyota Verso S well, the dashboard is transparent, even on the back bench there is a lot of space.

From a safety standpoint, the Tresio is to be commended as it has four airbags, two side curtains and ESP, and we only missed the parking sensors and electrically opened rear windows. Yes, and a switch to turn on daytime running lights may be suggested, as it does not cost more than a few euros. Front passengers will be more than happy with the amount of storage space, only the drink slots can be closer to the air vent to keep the air conditioner cool in summer.

Unfortunately, Subaru (actually Toyota) has very inconveniently positioned connectors for USB in AUXBecause with an ordinary key (on which, for example, we have music loaded), the box in front of the navigator cannot be completely closed.

Toyota's 1,33-liter engine has been repeatedly praised as it has long proven itself in the Yaris and Urban Cruiser models. Paired with a six-speed gearbox, it's just meek and lithe at low revs, and nothing will hold its own against higher revs. Six gears means it will drive at all speed limits in Slovenia without hesitation, the only downside being noise above 120 km/h when sixth gear is too short and the engine is already too loud.

But this is usually the black point of all city cars with a smaller engine that is not forced to charge. You will be impressed with the agility while driving, as it feels more comfortable in meat mazes than a bird on a tree branch, and it is average around corners.

Toyobaru has no competitors only in Japanese cars (Jazz), but also in Korean (ix20). But if they can't count on workmanship (Honda and Hyundai aren't far behind Toyota), they can at least count on the Subaru logo.

To be even slightly different from this class of equals is a good argument.

Overall rating (290/420)

  • Toyobaru is the best word that very succinctly describes what you get with this car: Toyota with Subaru accessories. It also means a slightly higher price and excellent workmanship.

  • Exterior (12/15)

Unfortunately, it's not original enough to separate Subaru from Toyota from afar.

  • Interior (83/140)

Well equipped, suitable for use, but only average of good materials.

  • Engine, transmission (41

    / 40)

Nice bike, although the exterior has grown over the years; The transmission is in sixth gear too short.

  • Driving performance (53

    / 95)

Due to the flat hips, it is slightly more sensitive to crosswinds.

  • Performance (25/35)

A surprisingly sharp and "bouncy" engine for such a small volume.

  • Security (35/45)

There is no fear in clashes: Toyobaru is a safe wagon.

  • Economy (41/50)

Relatively expensive, but modest in cost and average under warranty.
