We test applications for science lovers and practitioners

This time we present mobile applications for people familiar with science. For all those who love to train their mind and achieve a little more.

Science Magazine

The Science Journal app is defined as a research tool for a smartphone. It uses the sensors that the phone is equipped with. External sensors can also be connected to it. Appka allows you to create research projects, starting with assumptions, notes and collecting test data, and then describing and evaluating the results.

The average smartphone today has an accelerometer, gyroscope, light sensor, and often a barometer, compass and altimeter (plus a microphone or GPS) on board. A complete list of compatible external devices can be found on the official website of the project. You can even connect your own Arduino chips.

Google calls their app a lab journal. The collected information is not disclosed anywhere. A scientific journal should be understood as an educational project aimed at inspiring young scientists and researchers, teaching them the scientific methodology of conducting research in accordance with their own ideas.

Decay Energy Calculator

Here is an application for physicists, chemists and students of these faculties, as well as for all people interested in science. Its main function is to demonstrate which isotopes of elements are stable and which are not, and with what decay modes they will decay into smaller nuclei. It also gives the energy released in the reaction.

To get results, simply enter the element's chemical isotope symbol or atomic number. The mechanism calculates its decay time. We also get a lot of other information, such as the number of isotopes of the introduced element.

It is worth noting that the application gives extremely accurate results of the nuclear fission reaction. In the case of uranium, for example, we get a detailed balance of all particles, types of radiation, and amounts of energy.

Star Walk 2

Apicacia Star Walk 2

There are many applications that support stargazing. However, Star Walk 2 stands out for its meticulous craftsmanship and visual aesthetics. This program is an interactive guide to astronomy. It includes maps of the night sky, descriptions of constellations and celestial bodies, as well as XNUMXD models of planets, nebulae, and even artificial satellites orbiting the Earth.

There is a lot of scientific information and interesting facts about each celestial body, as well as a gallery of photographs taken by telescopes. The developers also added the ability to match the image of the displayed map with the part of the sky under which the user is currently located.

The application also describes in detail, among other things, each phase of the moon. Star Walk 2 has a simplified intuitive interface and soundtrack (classical classical music). It is worth emphasizing that all this is available on the new Microsoft platform (Windows 10).

Solution Calculator

A tool useful for students, researchers and just for lovers of chemistry, biology and their combination, i.e. biochemistry. Thanks to the "solution calculator" you can choose the right amount of chemicals in experiments conducted in a school or university laboratory.

Once we have entered the reaction parameters, the ingredients and the desired result, the calculator will instantly calculate how much is needed. It will also allow you to easily and quickly calculate the molecular weight of a substance from the reaction data, without having to enter complex chemical formulas.

Of course, the app includes a periodic table with all the information you need. The version distributed in the Play Store is nicknamed Lite, which suggests the presence of a paid version - Premium. However, it is currently unavailable.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is an educational institution that has already gained a great reputation not only on the Internet. On the official website of the organization founded by Salman Khan, we can find almost 4 lectures in the form of films divided into several categories.

Each lecture lasts from several to several tens of minutes, and the topics cover a wide range of topics. We can find here materials both in the field of exact sciences (computer science, mathematics, physics, astronomy), biological sciences (medicine, biology, chemistry), and humanities (history, art history).

Thanks to the Khan Academy Lecture Mobile App, we also have access through mobile devices. The application allows you to view all the materials collected on the site and upload them to the computing cloud.
