Test Grilles: Mazda CX-5 2.0i AWD Attraction

In those few days of communication, there were not several critical and slightly less critical reviewers who openly praised the Mazda CX-5's appearance. At first glance, you can see that it is very brazen with a big mask, and at the same time offers everything that is expected from a modern soft SUV. So a higher driving position, which also means easier entry and exit, plenty of space in the back seat and in the trunk and – yes, the test also had all-wheel drive.

But there is a tiny print behind all those chocolates. Due to the huge mask and the relatively large frontal area, wind gusts above 140 km / h are already audible, but also disturbing at higher speeds. Now I hear you preaching to me that the highway limit is 130 km / h. Considering that we all cheat a little, 140 or 150 km / h (by meter), in my experience, this is the cruising speed of at least half of the participants. and among them the most common are limousine and SUV drivers. Therefore, we included wind gusts along the bends of the hull as a disadvantage. The other downside can also be a bit subjective, as the padded seats did not make me the most pleased with the long journey I had with the Mazda CX-5. Over time, comfort turned into pain, which, as I have already noted, can also be explained by my age or the presence of cartilage between the vertebrae. So I advise you to borrow the Mazda CX-5 in advance and take it on a slightly longer ride, but you can do a better test and you won't have problems with the padded seats.

I was also interested in the passengers' feedback on the shape of the dashboard. Most found that they were rather timid when designing Mazda and that they could afford a little more daring. The comments then turned in two directions: if Mazda didn't quite appreciate it, they ended up saying that the dashboard was already working in the new outdated car, and supporters (Japanese brands at least) almost collectively discovered that it was related with fears. about the build quality. In short, this quality is not a hostage to the form, although then they preferred to overhear my question about the beauty and quality of some competitors. But the fact is that we have nothing to complain about about the build quality and that Mazda owners will feel right at home in this car. The Attraction package is the third largest of the four equipment options, so you can sleep peacefully.

Front and rear parking sensors, heated front seats, 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, 5,8-inch color touchscreen, cruise control, hands-free system, radio with CD player and six speakers, etc. are a real balm for the driver and passengers, as with the richer Revolution equipment, you can only think of 19-inch wheels (we don't recommend it as there is less comfort), a leather seat cover, a rearview camera, a smart key and nine Bose speakers. Apart from the camera, nothing particularly useful.

That said, the Mazda CX-5 was very well equipped with safety features as it offers front and side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control DSC, vehicle monitoring system (RVM) and lane departure warning system. traffic (LDWS). active bi-xenon headlights (AFS) with automatic high beam deactivation (HBCS) also came in handy. The system worked very well as we had to calmly swallow the initial dumplings to blind oncoming drivers with long headlights. Useful!

Four-wheel drive is one of those that provide safer acceleration, but it's not exactly fun. The system sends a maximum of 50 percent of the torque to the rear wheels, which is why the CX-5 loves to “skip through the nose” even in the snow. Staying on the road is a breeze thanks to the lighter body weight and ready chassis, as well as the fairly precise steering system and six-speed manual transmission that Mazda says is traditionally fast and accurate. Technicians even boast that they have significantly reduced the friction during gear operation, so consumption is expected to be less. It came in at around nine liters on test, which is a lot, but that's to be expected given the all-wheel drive and...what did we say about the front surface?

In short, the Mazda CX-5 is a pleasant car, although it doesn't stand out for its modest fuel consumption, driving pleasure, or cabin shape. But otherwise, it's good enough, pleasant on the outside, and richly equipped in terms of safety, to be a real bun.
