Test Grilles: Renault Megane Berline TCe 130 Energy GT Line

At first it was interesting to watch them stumble, and after looking at the information from the road license, they were stunned. TCe 130 stands for a small but nice engine. Only fuel consumption is no longer low.

But in order.

The Megane in a Berlin dress is a five-door version with an updated design complete with GT Line accessories. These accessories are familiar not only from the outside, but also from the inside: a Renault Sport door sill awaits you at the entrance, great seats with a headrest that clearly says GT Line, and a leather steering wheel with red stitching. Hands. Along with other equipment, a radio with steering wheel switches, two front and two side airbags, air curtains, cruise control, a speed limiter, two-way automatic air conditioning and an R-Link interface with a touch screen and even navigation itself. demanding will be satisfied.

But the real fun begins under the hood, where the 1,2-liter four-cylinder engine with positive injection, the fruit of the Renault-Nissan alliance, is installed. Nissan has taken care of the engine, while Renault has taken care of better combustion and forced-air technology. The engine is a real monoblock, the only thing we lacked was a jerk in the back at full acceleration. Although it doesn't, it delivers very continuous acceleration as it starts "pulling" as early as 1.500 rpm and doesn't stop until the red bar that starts at 6.000.

Admittedly, we expected more torque from the 130 "turbo horses", but in the end we agreed with the aforementioned friends that with an acceleration of about 10 seconds and a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour (note the 270 km / h on the counter ). !) We have nothing to complain about. We agreed that it takes a very uncomfortable driver to miss a well-timed shift, because then the more modest engine can't breathe without the help of a turbocharger. But this can only be an insult to the driver! Well, what do we think about such drivers, we can understand from the spicy words of our conversation, where we agreed that the driver should be completely beech, left, keel, and so on, and all adjectives should not be written at all due to censorship. .

We mentioned consumption. On the test, it was 8,4 liters, on our usual circle 6,3 liters. According to the first score, these are quite high numbers, although a closer look at our expense table reveals that it is not so serious. The 130-horsepower TCe petrol consumes only 0,6 liters more than an equally powerful dCi 130 turbo diesel according to the rules of the road, which is not really a big tax on quietness and refinement, is it? But rather than starting a war between turbodiesel and turbo-petrol proponents, we can conclude that at Renault you have the option of both. And they are both good. Evidence of this is the timely shift warning, which also lights up for the TCe engine at 2.000 rpm – similar to dCi.

If you are surprised by the small RS, then you look too little at Formula 1, where Renault has been at the top for several years. Also with new turbocharged engines. Apparently my friends don't watch enough sports programs on Sunday afternoons either.

evaluation

  • As long as the larger displacement (1.6) is replaced by an excellent combustion engine and modern turbocharger, we have nothing to fear.
