The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid was first introduced in 2018 but will finally arrive in Australia in 2022.

Bentley Australia has confirmed it will launch electrified models next, starting with the Bentayga SUV in early 2022 and then the Flying Spur sedan.

While the Bentayga Hybrid was first unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the electrified SUV will start showing up in local showrooms next year following the updated V8 and Speed available now and later this year, respectively.

The Bentayga Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine with an electric motor, with a total output of 330 kW/700 Nm.

This puts it below the 404kW/770Nm 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo engine and the 447kW/900Nm 6.0-litre W12 twin-turbocharged Speed engine, but delivers a much more acceptable fuel consumption figure of around 3.5 liters per 100 km.

The Bentayga Hybrid, also equipped with a 17.3 kW lithium-ion battery, can travel up to 51 km on a single charge.

Pricing for the Bentayga Hybrid is currently unknown, but given that it shares the same chassis and powertrain as the Porsche Cayenne, the electrified SUV could be the new entry point to the lineup.

For reference, the Cayenne E-Hybrid starts at $148,000 excluding travel expenses, and the cheapest V8-powered variant, the GTS, costs $198,300.

The 2021 Bentayga range currently starts at $364,800 for the VV and goes up to $8 for the Speed.

Meanwhile, details about the Flying Spur Hybrid have yet to be revealed, but given its close relationship to the Porsche Panamera, we can make some educated guesses.

The Panamera is available with three electrified powertrains: the E-Hybrid and S E-Hybrid, which use a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, and the Turbo S E-Hybrid, which uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

The E-Hybrid produces 340kW, the S E-Hybrid ups the ante to 412kW, and the Turbo S E-Hybrid puts out 515kW thanks to the use of a 100kW electric motor.

The battery capacity is 17.9 kWh, which allows you to drive about 54 km without harmful emissions.

The Flying Spur's current range starts at $428,800 for the 404kW/770Nm V8 and goes up to $488,000 for the 467kW/900Nm W12, so depending on which electrified power Bentley chooses, the Flying Spur Hybrid could be the most cheap in the line of large luxury limousines. up.

Speaking to Cars Guide, Bentley's head of Australia and New Zealand, David Simpson, said plans were already in place to get the brand's three outlets ready for the arrival of the first hybrid models.

“We will have the Flying Spur Hybrid… that will be the next hybrid vehicle we have in Australia and then the Bentayga Hybrid will follow,” he said.

“We are still working on the exact timing of this, but we are preparing the dealer network for the hybrid.”
