Toyota Verso 1.6 D-4D: the first Toyota with a diesel engine from BMW

Toyota begins equipping the Verso with a new 1,6-liter turbodiesel engine. This is not an independent development of the company, but the result of a strategic partnership with BMW.

The 1,6-liter four-cylinder Toyota Verso develops 112 hp. and reaches a maximum torque of 270 Nm. The new diesel will hit the market in early 2014.

Two years ago, BMW and Toyota agreed to borrow diesel engines from the BMW program for some Toyota models. The 1,6-liter Verso diesel engine was originally installed in the Mini and will be produced by BMW Austria. For implementation in Verso, it has been specially adapted in many areas. Thus, it can be combined, for example, with a double flywheel clutch, a start-stop system and a new gearbox.
