Toyota Yaris 1.33 Dual VVT (74 kW) Luna (5 watts)

An additional model designation is VVT-i HB 5D M / T6 Luna 8T4 / 18, which will not deceive you, as combinations of letters and numbers say almost everything. So it's a five-door version with a six-speed manual, and the Luna is the label for the cheapest equipment you can get with this engine.

Here's the introduction. To find out more about the Auto magazine's experience with the Yaris with such an engine and transmission, scroll through last year's Issue 14.200, as we have already published a detailed and comprehensive test on this subject. The previous one was much better equipped, with sports equipment, which, incidentally, was taken out of production within a year. Maybe because the car with it cost "only" 2010 630 euros, and the XNUMX year with minor changes and the equipment mentioned costs XNUMX euros less. Times are just changing.

The price still does not include some basic safety accessories that every smart car owner should consider, especially for these little ones. For a VSC, which costs 770 euros, only a really seriously knowledgeable person is willing to pay extra (we hope that people are even more aware of this). The knee protector along with the side can only be obtained with the richer Stella equipment (which is 930 euros more expensive).

Speaking of times, if you look at it differently, they also change for the better. In the new edition, the car is slightly more maneuverable than the first one (on average by 0 seconds during acceleration) and a little more economical (which may also be due to the lower "weight" of the driver's legs). The difference can probably be attributed to the fact that this time our Yaris has already passed several tests and covered a little more than 2 kilometers on the counter, so it passed well. This time it performed especially well in the brake test.

Unfortunately, the quality and appearance of the plastic lining in the cabin cannot be praised. The cautious driver was disappointed by another small mistake - a broken hood opening mechanism. Because of this, of course, I had to visit the service unplanned. These are minor errors, like the one we described in the first test, regarding the use of the accelerator pedal. Under it, the carpet usually gets stuck, so you have to press the gas much harder. Do you think the problem is familiar to you? No, this has nothing to do with other Toyota design issues. Although it is true that, as such, it is inconvenient to use and, of course, you can change ...

The Yaris benchmark, however, was more about usability than issues. These minor observations alone have too much effect on the overall good impression. It could be even better in terms of a nice, useful, comfortable little car, but Toyota will have to work hard for it ...

evaluation

  • The Yaris is slightly smaller in appearance than its rivals in the small family car class, but it makes up for the shorter length with its clever interpretation of the rear seat. He's also a master of flexibility, roominess and storage space. Only with the subtlety of an imaginary limp. As for the price: it's all a matter of negotiations!

We praise and reproach
