Car leather interior care

      The leather interior has a beautiful and expensive look. But it won't last long if you don't take care of it. Caring for leather upholstery in the car interior is guaranteed to preserve its appearance, protecting the material from rubbing and cracking.

      How are leather interiors killed?

      Negative factors to which the skin is exposed during the operation of the car:

      • ultraviolet radiation. Hot sun rays dry out the material, making it less elastic. Therefore, when crushing the structure, great harm is done;
      • with too much frost, the skin tans, losing elasticity;
      • excessive moisture, provoking the appearance of the fungus;
      • mechanical damage received by the leather interior when transporting various items and rubbing against clothes (most relevant for jeans, leather jackets);
      • chemical impact. The dyes used in the manufacture of clothing are absorbed into the polyurethane layer, thereby coloring the seats.

      Leather interior care: remove dust

      Needed once a week wipe leather surfaces from dust dry clean . If you ignore the layer of settled dust for a long time, it will accumulate moisture and grease.

      Next comes a thorough wet cleaning. It is needed only once a month, and it should always start with cleaning. If you skip this step and immediately start wet cleaning, then dust and dirt particles will become viscous, penetrate into the pores of the skin and it will be much more difficult to clean it.

      To get rid of deep-seated dust in detailing studios, they use it, which blows dust out of hard-to-reach places, and the vacuum cleaner sucks it in.

      Leather interior care: cleaning with special equipment

      After vacuuming, there is a standard procedure for caring for the leather interior of a car:

      • conditionally divide the seat into several zones - it will be easier for you to follow the sequence;
      • apply foam cleaner to the brush and rub over the surface. If you use a cleaner from the budget line, then you can wait 1-2 minutes for better absorption of the composition. Repeat the procedure until deposits from pores and microcracks are removed;
      • dry the entire surface with a hairdryer;
      • Apply the balm to the sponge and rub evenly over the entire surface. Leave the interior in this state, and then remove the excess with a towel. If desired, the procedure can be repeated.

      After moistening, it is advisable to let the car stand for 1 hour in a place protected from direct sunlight.

      What not to do when cleaning leather interior?

      The main cause of contamination of leather surfaces is the deposition of fats: human sebum, machine lubricants, cosmetics, smog particles. The fatty film quickly absorbs dirt, which then clogs into the pores of the skin. For fat removal must not use degreasers. Most of them are petroleum-based and easily dissolve the thin polymer film that is applied to leather at the factory to protect it from environmental influences.

      Leather interior care: prevention

      To keep your leather interior in good shape for a long time, you can use the following tips.

      Periodically clean the seats from dyes from clothes. The problem of interior coloring is known mostly to owners of light beige or white interiors, on which traces easily appear, for example, from blue denim. The whole negative is that over time, chemical dyes eat into the polyurethane layer. The deeper it is absorbed, the more difficult it is to remove it (and sometimes even impossible). Therefore, it is enough to remember this property, so that if traces of dyes appear, they can be removed with light dry cleaning.

      Periodically moisturize the skin with oils and nutrients. This is especially true for the hot summer period, in which it is desirable to carry out the procedure at least once every 1-2 months. Otherwise, processing before and after the end of the winter season is sufficient.

      Use a reflective curtain when the car is parked for a long time under the sun in hot weather. When parked for several days or more, this protection method will significantly extend the life of the seat back (it suffers most from UV radiation). If your car has an athermal windshield, then this recommendation can be neglected.
