Power supply and electric start system

The vehicle's power system consists of two sources: batteries and an alternating current generator set. In addition, the system includes a number of interposing relays, a battery ground switch and a key switch for gauges and starter.

The electric start system includes batteries, a starter, a battery mass switch, a key instrument switch and a starter, an electric torch device (EFU), a vapor-liquid heater (PZhD) and intermediate relays.

Rechargeable batteries

Batteries of the 6ST-182EM or 6ST-132EM type are installed on MAZ vehicles. The nominal voltage of each battery is 12 V. Two batteries are connected in series in the car, which increases the operating voltage to 24 V.

Depending on the conditions of transportation of dry-charge batteries, they can be supplied without electrolyte or with electrolyte. Batteries that are not filled with electrolyte must be put into working condition before use and, if necessary, filled with electrolyte of the corrected density.

Generator set

The GU G273A generator set is an alternator with a built-in rectifier unit and a built-in voltage regulator (IRN)

After 50 km of the car’s run, and later at each TO-000, it is necessary to remove the GU from the motor, disassemble it and check the condition of the ball bearings and electric brushes. Damaged bearings and badly worn brushes should be replaced.

Starter

On MAZ vehicles, a starter type ST-103A-01 is installed.

Battery disconnect switch

Switch type VK 860B is designed to connect batteries to the vehicle ground and disconnect them.

Electric torch device (EFD)

The device serves to facilitate starting the engine at an ambient temperature of -5°C to -25°C.

The electric torch heater does not require separate maintenance. Malfunctions that appear on the EFU are eliminated by replacing the defective element.

Electrical equipment of preheater

During operation, the electric spark plug, thermoelectric heater, fuel solenoid valve may fail. These devices are non-separable and are replaced when they fail.

The transistor key is made on electronic elements, sealed, does not require maintenance and cannot be repaired.

The electric motor of the pumping unit is not serviced during operation. Since the electric motor does not run for long, it ensures the normal operation of the heater during the operation of the vehicle for several checks.

Sound alarm system

Cars are equipped with two sound signals: pneumatic, mounted on the cab roof, and electric, consisting of two signals: low and high tone. A noise relay-buzzer was also installed, indicating a drop in air pressure in the brake circuits and clogging of the air and oil filters of the engine, which is determined by the change in pressure when the filters are clogged.

 

Diagnostics

The electrical system of a modern MAZ truck uses a complex electronic engine injection control system. Optional equipment

Additional equipment includes electrical appliances serving windshield wipers, a heating and ventilation system for the passenger compartment.

Wiper motors and heating systems do not require maintenance during operation.

Modifications

The Minsk Automobile Plant produced several variants of a wooden truck:

1. One of the first versions is the 509P model, which was supplied to customers for only 3 years (since 1966). The car used a front drive axle with planetary gears on the hubs. The transmission uses a dry clutch with 1 working disc.
2. In 1969, a modernized model 509 car was installed on the conveyor. The car was distinguished by a modified clutch scheme, modified gear ratios in the transfer case and gearbox. To simplify the design, cylindrical sprockets began to be used on the front axle. Design improvements made it possible to increase the carrying capacity by 500 kg.
3. Since 1978, the production of the MAZ-509A began, which received similar modifications to the basic version of the truck. For unknown reasons, the car was not given a new designation. The external change was the transfer of headlights to the front bumper. A new decorative grille appeared in the cabin with combined lamps in cartridges instead of holes for headlights. The brake drive received a separate drive axle circuit.

Mounting block MAZ - BSK-4

In the electrical system of modern MAZ-6430 vehicles, a fuse and relay mounting block (on-board system unit) of the BSK-4 brand (TAIS.468322.003) manufactured by the Minsk plant of MPOVT OJSC is used. The design of the mounting block for mounting electronic components, relays and fuses uses a multilayer printed circuit board. In case of short circuits in the electrical wiring and power harnesses of the car, the unit fails. An analogue of BSK-4 called BKA-4 can also be used.

Our specialists carry out repair of the BSK-4 mounting block in case of defects on a multilayer printed circuit board. If repair is not possible, replacement is required. In order to avoid failure of the BSK-4 mounting block, it is necessary first of all to monitor compliance with the fuse ratings, as well as the condition of the truck's electrical wiring.
