Hub and wheel bearing Nissan Qashqai

Not only the trouble-free operation of the car, but also the safety of the driver depends on the serviceability of each part of the chassis of the car. Even such an inconspicuous element as a wheel bearing largely determines the characteristics and handling of the car. Nissan Qashqai cars use angular contact bearings, which, in fact, are integral with the hub mechanism. It is noteworthy that until 2007 this unit in Qashqai was collapsible, that is, the bearing could be replaced separately from the hub.

Overview

The hub is designed to fix the car wheel on the axis of rotation (trunnion) or axle beam. This element is attached to the steering knuckle, which is connected to the suspension strut. The frame, in turn, is attached to the car body.

The hub provides not only the mounting of the wheels, but also their rotation. Through it, the torque from the crankshaft is transmitted to the wheel. If the wheels are driving, then this is an element of the car's transmission.

The wheel bearing connects the wheel to the hub or steering knuckle. In addition, it performs the following functions:

  • minimizes friction forces when transmitting torque;
  • distributes radial and axial loads coming from the wheel to the axle and vehicle suspension (and vice versa);
  • unloads the axle shaft of the drive axle.

In Nissan Qashqai cars, the average bearing life varies from 60 to 100 thousand kilometers.

Driving a car with a bad wheel bearing is quite dangerous. In such cases, the risk of losing control and handling of the car on the track increases.

Signs of node malfunction

The fact that the car owner will soon have to replace the wheel bearing with a Nissan Qashqai may be indicated by such signs as:

  • dull noise at a speed of 40-80 km / h from the side of the malfunction;
  • vibration of the steering wheel, throttle and body without objective reasons;
  • strange bumps in the suspension;
  • leaving the car to the side when driving (almost the same as with an incorrect wheel alignment);
  • crackling, "gurgling", other extraneous sounds from the faulty side.

The most important and common symptom indicating bearing failure is a monotonous rolling noise that increases with speed. Some car owners compare it to the roar of a jet engine.

Diagnostics

You can determine from which side the unpleasant sound is heard during the movement of the car, periodic changes in speed, turns and braking. Experienced Nissan Qashqai owners claim that you can determine the faulty side when cornering. It is believed that when turning in the "problem" direction, the buzzing usually becomes quieter or disappears.

To assess the extent and nature of the problem manually, you can do the following:

  •  put the car on a flat surface;
  • hands turn the wheel vertically at the top point.

Noticeable wheel wear and a strange grinding noise almost always indicate wheel bearing wear.

You can also get more accurate node state information like this:

  •  a jack is installed from the side of the car being diagnosed, the car is raised;
  •  rotate the wheel, giving it maximum acceleration.

If, during rotation, a creak or other extraneous sounds are heard from the side of the wheel, this indicates a malfunction or wear of the bearing.

Front-wheel drive vehicles can be diagnosed on a lift. To do this, jack up the car, start the engine, turn on the gear and accelerate the wheels to 3500-4000 rpm. After turning off the engine, a monotonous buzzing, creaking or creaking will be heard from the faulty side. Also, the presence of a problem will be indicated by a noticeable play when winding and spinning the wheel.

Replacement parts

If this undercarriage assembly fails, genuine Nissan parts are recommended. Alternatively, products from the Japanese brands Justdrive and YNXauto, the German Optimal or the Swedish SKF may also be suitable. Hubs SKF VKBA 6996, GH 32960 are popular with Nissan Qashqai owners.

Front Hub Replacement Procedure

Replacing the front hub includes the following steps, namely such as:

  1. the rear wheels of the car are fixed with wedges;
  2. jack up the front of the car, remove the wheel;
  3.  fix the brake disc with a screwdriver;
  4. unscrew the hub nut;
  5. unscrew the steering knuckle rack;
  6. unscrew the CV joint nut and remove it from the hub;
  7.  loosen the ball pin, remove the steering knuckle;
  8.  delete the old center;
  9. use your fist to tighten the hub bolts.

Installing a new hub is done in reverse order. SHRUS splines and all threaded connections are recommended to be treated with grease ("Litol").

Rear hub replacement

To replace the rear hub, block the vehicle's front wheels and remove the wheel.

Farther:

  1. unbend and remove the cotter pin from the wheel hub nut;
  2. unscrew the fixing nut;
  3. remove the brake disc;
  4. unscrew the bushing of the suspension arm;
  5. touching the drive shaft, take it back a little;
  6. remove the hub together with the handbrake mechanism and disconnect them;
  7.  install a new part.

Reassemble in the reverse order.

To replace a wheel bearing on a Nissan Qashqai, follow the same steps to remove the assembly. The bearing is removed (pressed in) with a cartridge, hammer or mallet, after which a new one is installed.

It is recommended to use genuine Nissan bearings for replacement. If this is not possible, experienced motorists recommend using components from SNR, KOYO, NTN.
