Opel Ampera-e battery module replacement campaign to be launched in Europe • ELECTRIC CARS

We are following the Chevrolet Bolt theme, although it mainly concerns our readers from overseas. In view of reports from various parties that the recall campaign will be extended to the European version of the Bolt, marketed as the Opel Ampera-e, we decided to inquire about this at the Polish branch of the Opel / PSA Group. Unofficial information was confirmed:

The replacement of battery modules will also affect the Opel Ampera-e.

Wojciech Osos, Director of Public Relations at the PSA Group, told us that:

All amps sold in Europe will have battery modules replaced. The company will also contact owners of vehicles that have been imported individually, provided that they have their contact details, which is a key element for the effectiveness of such contact.

If someone is not sure if an Opel [Ampera-e] dealer has their details, they can contact car dealership where the new car was bought... Thanks to this, he will be able to update the software and set a date for the replacement of battery modules, he told Elektrowóz Osoś. At the same time, he noted that Opel Ampera-e is not offered on the Polish market.

According to the latest information, the problem concerns 140 vehicles, because all the Chevrolets bolts and, as you can see, the Opel Ampera-e were included in the recall campaign just in case... General Motors is working with cell manufacturer LG Energy Solutions to obtain the required number of replacement cells. Twelve Chevrolet Bolt fires have been confirmed so far, with several more pending verification. This gives a fire rate of 12 percent.

A problematic batch of cells appeared in General Motors and Hyundai Kona Electric vehicles (there were also several incidents of fires).
