In some cases, Tesla's autopilot works almost to the end, even when hitting [video]

Chinese portal PCauto participated in tests of electronic driver assistance systems (ADAS), including emergency braking systems (EBA). There were several experiments, but one was extremely interesting: the behavior of the autopilot in relation to a pedestrian crossing the lane.

Update 2020/09/21, hours. 17.56: added test results (Tesla Model 3 won with autopilot) and changed movie link to work.

Are you driving on autopilot? It's better not to count on miraculous support from electronics

The internet is full of videos of Tesla performing brutal, perfectly balanced maneuvers to save the car and driver from oppression. It is possible that some of these recordings are real.

However, quite often the voices of people involved in accidents are heard that "Tesla did nothing." That is: the machine did not react in any way, although the problem was obvious. It ended in an accident.

Four cars took part in the test of the Chinese portal PCauto: Aion LX 80 (blue), Tesla Model 3 (red), Nio ES6 (red) and Li Xiang One (silver). All are equipped with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving systems:

Records of all experiments can be viewed HERE and at the bottom of the article. This is interesting, it shows, for example, that the Tesla Model 3 is best at handling cones that narrow the road, but even it has the problem of completely changing lanes and requires driver intervention.

/ ATTENTION, the photos below may seem unpleasant even if they show a mannequin /

The cars of the Californian manufacturer react rather ambiguously to people. While driving at a speed of 50 km / h and standing on the belts, the "man" Tesla Model 3 was the only one who stopped in front of the dummy. But when the "pedestrian" was moving along the crossing, and Tesla was moving at a speed of 40 km / h, the car was the only one. failed brake:

Autopilot, more precisely: the Autosteer function, that is, the semi-autonomous driving function, was active almost to the end, as indicated by the icon on the blue illuminated steering wheel:

It was even worse when the puppet appeared from behind other cars parked on the side of the road. The Model 3 then alerted the driver to the problem, but was active even when the car bounced over the platform the dummy was driving on. From the inside, it looked pretty creepy:

The movie is in Chinese, but watch it in its entirety. Tests with a motionless person (emergency braking, AEB) start at 7:45, with a puppet representing a pedestrian - at 9:45. Tesla wins entire test with 34 points. The second was Nio (22 points), the third was Lee Xiang Wang (18 points), the fourth was GAC Aion LX (17 points):

Note from the editors www.elektrowoz.pl: the entry refers to the Chinese Tesla Model 3, so it may turn out that in Europe the autopilot settings or reaction times are different. The above tests should also not be compared with the EuroNCAP tests.because they work in different conditions. However, we wanted to discuss the material so that drivers don't overdo it with electronics.
