The continuously variable variator Honda SLYA was produced at an enterprise in Japan from 2001 to 2005 and was installed on the seventh generation of the popular Civic model with a 1.7-liter D17A engine. In the first year, a similar, but not very reliable MLYA box was installed on this model.
The Multimatic series also includes: MENA, SE5A, SPOA and SWRA.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the SLYA variator
With frequent lubricant changes and proper warm-up, the variator lasts up to 250 km
Then it’s easier to pick up a contract box, it costs less than any repair
The belt wears out the fastest here, its steel elements crumble
On long runs, bearings often buzz and the weakest on the input shaft
The cause of the shocks is often a strong wear of the left transmission support.
