Today, in the automotive market, the status of the VAZ-2105 can be determined in accordance with its direct purpose, that is, as a means of transportation, if not the most comfortable, but quite reliable and time-tested.

Overview of the Lada 2105 model

The VAZ-2105 car was produced at the Togliatti Automobile Plant (as well as at the KraSZ plants in Ukraine and Lada Egipt in Egypt) for 31 years - from 1979 to 2010, that is, it was in production longer than any other VAZ model. By the end of the 2000s, thanks to the minimum configuration, the "five" cost less than each of the models of the Volga Automobile Plant produced at that time - 178 thousand rubles in 2009.

Having replaced the first generation Zhiguli, the VAZ-2105 received a more up-to-date appearance at that time with angular shapes and black matte decorative elements instead of the previously used chrome ones. The creators of the new model sought not only to simplify assembly, but also to reach an acceptable cost of the car.. For example, the rejection of chrome-plated parts made it possible to get rid of the long and labor-intensive technological process of applying several layers of non-ferrous metals to steel. Among the innovations that were not on previous VAZ models, there were:

  • toothed timing belt (instead of the chain used before);
  • polyurethane panels in the cabin, made by one-piece stamping;
  • block headlights equipped with a hydraulic corrector;
  • combination under one cover of the rear lamp dimensions, turn signals, reversing lights, brake lights and foglights;
  • heated rear window as standard.

In addition, swivel wind triangles were removed from the windows of the front doors of the new car, and side nozzles began to be used to blow these windows. The driver could now adjust the position of the side mirrors from the passenger compartment, and height-adjustable head restraints were provided for the front passengers.

For my money, a very good car, I bought it as my first car and did not regret it later. Drove her 1,5 years, invested a little after the previous owner and forward along the highway! During the operation, there were no special problems, so the little things associated with maintenance, everything just needs to be changed on time and monitor the car, and not wait until it falls off by itself! The possibility of tuning, a large selection of spare parts, and almost all spare parts are available in all car dealerships, not counting the showdowns.

Engine

The VAZ-2105 power unit was designed on the model of the engine installed on the Ford Pinto. That is why the “five” received a timing belt transmission instead of a chain, due to which the predecessors of the VAZ-2105 were characterized by an increased noise level. It is known that the use of a toothed belt helps the engine not bend the valve: if the force inside the system exceeds the allowable value, the belt drive breaks, preventing valve deformation and, as a result, expensive repairs.

I bought such a car, I thought I would drive for a long time. I bought it for 500 bucks, I immediately gave the body for cooking / painting, the engine capitalized itself. It took about $600 for everything. That is, but for the money it seemed to replace absolutely everything, down to the smallest detail. Belt engine, really frisky, gaining momentum instantly. It's interesting to ride but there is very little traction. The 4-speed gearbox pleases with excellent gear shifting, but the lever is inconveniently located. With my height of 190 cm, it is difficult to get behind the wheel, because he lies stupidly on his knees. Digested the steering column, managed to slightly raise. Still uncomfortable. I threw out the seats without headrests, bought them from 2107. The landing is idiotic, I traveled for a month, I changed it to Mazda ones. Sitting comfortably, but now very high.

Door locks are terrible.

It makes no sense to talk about handling - it is possible to move quickly only in a straight line, the car rolls heavily.

The original carburetor version of the engine provided a power of 64 hp. With. with a volume of 1,3 liters. Subsequently, when the injection version of the engine appeared, the power increased to 70 hp. With. At the same time, the injection engine is more demanding on fuel quality and runs on gasoline with an octane rating of at least 93. The engine housing was made of cast iron, resistant to high temperatures, due to which the failure of the power unit due to overheating was very rare. The motor was distinguished by its simplicity of design, which allowed the car owner to independently carry out most of the activities related to the maintenance of the unit.

Due to the short piston stroke, which is 66 mm for the “five” (for the VAZ-2106 and VAZ-2103, this figure is 80 mm), as well as the cylinder diameter increased to 79 mm, the engine turned out to be quite resourceful, continuing to maintain a high torque value for 4000 rpm or more. Previously produced models did not always cope with this task and worked more reliably at low and medium speeds.
