Renault Duster stove fan

We are used to judging the build quality of a car by the little things, and rightly so. A creaking hinge, a rattling plastic panel, or a vibrating stove definitely doesn't add to a manufacturer's rating. However, it’s a sin for Renault Duster owners to complain: the noise and vibration of the engine or stove fan is not a frequent phenomenon and is quickly eliminated.

Stove fan for Renault Duster: noise, vibration. Causes

The symptoms of this disease, characteristic of all Renault Dusters, are simple: the stove hums, creaks, squeals and vibrates at one speed or several at once. The reasons, of course, lie in the clogging of the air duct and the stove fan. Since the designers have hidden the stove so far away that it cannot be reached without dismantling the front panel, it is believed that the work is terribly difficult and long.

Removing the front panel is not an easy task. Therefore, at the service station they take about $ 100 for this.

Debris in the air duct appears due to the fact that the designers did not correctly design, in our opinion, the architecture of the blowing system. The cabin filter is installed after the stove and, in addition, there is not a hint of a protective mesh in the intake tract or at least grilles in the air duct. Therefore, everything that is possible gets into the stove - from leaves and dust to knots and moisture.

The stove on the Duster makes noise and vibrates. What to do

Let's think. To remove the stove or at least the fan, in theory, you need to remove the front panel. And this is a day or two of work. Naturally, at the gas station, they ask for at least 80-100 dollars for 2019 for everything. In fact, removing the Renault Duster front panel is a rather tedious task. However, the experience of Duster owners of different years of production suggests that it is quite possible to tidy up the stove fan without removing the front panel (dashboard, as garage craftsmen call it).

There are still four ways to solve the problems of the vibrating table with your own hands:

  1. Contact the service station, where they will carry out preventive maintenance of the stove fan, taking $ 100 for this.
  2. Clean and check the stove fan yourself by removing the front panel.
  3. With your own hands, clean the air duct and change the cabin filter.
  4. Eliminates noises, vibrations and squeaks without disassembling the dashboard.

It is obvious that we will go the least expensive ways and will not write off money for work without a guarantee of results. In addition, it is possible to repair and disassemble the stove fan without completely disassembling the panel. First, let's try to clean the air ducts.

How to clean the stove duct on Renault Duster without removing the dashboard

The Renault Duster stove fan does not differ in particularly quiet operation at speeds 3 and 4, but under normal operating conditions at speeds 1 and 2 it works quite quietly and without vibrations. Increased noise, vibration and creaking when the fan is turned on indicates that debris has entered the turbine, which must somehow be disposed of. Of course, the most effective option is to completely disassemble the front panel.

The easiest way to get rid of leaves and debris in the furnace channel

However, there are several ways to eliminate stove noise and vibration in the Duster by simply cleaning the air duct. The essence of the technique is that we will try to blow through the ventilation duct and thereby try to remove dust adhering to the fan, which causes rotor imbalance, vibration and noise. There are no guarantees, but in many cases cleaning solved the problem 100%. We act like this.

  1. Remove the protective grill under the hood.
  2. We find the air intake hole, it is almost in the middle of the motor shield.
  3. We remove the cabin filter, it is located at the feet of the front passenger.
  4. We put the heating element on the mode of blowing the legs and turn on the 1st speed of the stove motor.
  5. Water tanks were placed on the front mats.
  6. We have a compressor, an air gun and a sprayer…
  7. At the same time, we direct water, dust and air under pressure to the air intake.
  8. We blow and watch the outflow of water on the mats.

We carry out the purge procedure for about 30-40 minutes, periodically switching the operating modes of the stove engine. We spray water as little as possible, since flooding of the electric motor is still undesirable.

How to remove the stove fan without removing the front panel on Renault Duster

If the above option did not work for you, which it probably does, you need to take up the fan. The fact is that if the accumulation of dirt begins in the stove fan, then it will accumulate more and more, faster and faster, which will lead to more and more noticeable vibration and clogging of the air channel.

Therefore, if we missed the moment when the stove turbine was still not too clogged, cleaning will have to be done with the fan removed, but without removing the front panel. It is quite possible to do this, especially when there is an assistant nearby.

For those who have never disassembled the Duster stove, the operation may seem complicated. In fact, everything is quite simple. The main thing is to study the device of the electric motor of the stove, the location of the terminal block and the engine lock, since at 90 you will need to work blindly.

If the design does not allow diving under the front panel on the passenger side, then it is better to remove the front passenger seat. At the very least, this option is much preferable to losing hundreds of dollars.

Dismantling the fan of the Duster stove assembly

The work algorithm is as follows:

  1. On the stove control panel (on the far right) we set full airflow and summer mode).
  2. On the left under the glove compartment we find the electric motor of the stove. We press the latch indicated in the photo, and turn the motor a quarter turn clockwise (to the right).
  3. Disconnect the top terminal block by pressing the two latches on the sides. We do not touch the lower trim, it is removed along with the fan.
  4. You can try to pull the fan assembly with the engine out from under the panel, but it will not go through the gap between the bottom and the glove compartment.
  5. We remove the block, which is mounted on a skid at the bottom of the glove compartment, without disconnecting the terminal block.
  6. Remove the right front strut trim by loosening the clips.
  7. Under the lining we find the bolt, unscrew it.
  8. At the bottom of the front panel, under the plug, there is another bolt that needs to be unscrewed.
  9. Disable the front passenger airbag if you have one.
  10. We ask the assistant to raise the right side of the panel by 60-70 mm.
  11. This is enough to completely remove the fan assembly with the electric motor.
  12. We inspect the fan blades, carefully clean them from dust and dirt.
  13. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we get to the electric motor by breaking three latches.
  14. We separate the fan from the motor, check the condition of the brushes and slip rings, it would be nice to lubricate the brush guides and motor rotor bearings.

We assemble in the reverse order, also with the help of a partner when installing the fan under the front panel.
