Top notes, heart, base - perfume architecture from the inside.

We willingly take up perfumes both for every day and for “long walks”. There is nothing strange in this. Properly selected aroma increases attractiveness - it affects the sense of smell, which is extremely important in the process of perception. But why do spirits have such a strong influence on how we perceive another person? Let's take them under the microscope.

Perfume is nothing more than cosmetics, the formula of which includes highly concentrated essential oils. The word itself comes from the French term "per fumée", meaning "through the smoke", or rather - "through the aerosol". Because if we applied a pure fragrance concentrate to the skin, then, firstly, it would certainly be irritated, and secondly, the fragrance itself could be ... unpleasant. The musk itself, like the secretion of the glands of the musk deer (sic!), by no means smells as pleasant as strawberries or vanilla. And yet, it is one of the most valuable ingredients in exclusive perfumery. Why? Because in perfumery it is skillfully mixed with other fragrant extracts and dissolved in alcohol. And now we come to the heart of the matter - the architecture of perfume. Because they have a very rich bouquet of aromas. What's more, these fragrances are released gradually and the scent of the perfume changes over time.

Head, heart, base… the fragrance has many names.

Perfume (especially in concentrated form and in Eau de Parfum concentration) is an extremely multi-layered fragrance, undergoing at least two metamorphoses. What are transformations like?

The title appears first. It reaches your nostrils as soon as you open the bottle or release the fragrance from the atomizer. It is intense and usually only announces the character of the fragrance. This plays an important role because the first impression usually determines how we perceive the fragrance as a whole. Usually the first smell disappears after a dozen or so minutes. Then the heart note comes to the fore. This is the second note in the accord - it combines the character of the top note with the "depth" of the fragrance, i.e. its base note. It is the heart note that binds the perfume, usually determining whether it is more floral or spicy, and lasts for several hours. The base note, which appears about 20 minutes after application and becomes more intense over time, is the key to the fragrance. Its aroma is felt even a few days after application (even on fabrics). It is she who gives the fragrance its final character.

How to choose a perfume for fragrant notes?

Apparently, tastes differ. We would rather say that they are not judged. However, the fact is that each of us likes something different, including in relation to aromas. There are people among us who appreciate sweet, floral scents, such as Cacharel's Amor Amor, in which they play, among other things, refreshing pink grapefruit, lily, rose, lily of the valley or jasmine, as well as a more "heavy" and sweet vanilla, sandalwood, amber and musk. Others prefer fresher scents such as Green Tea Elizabeth Arden, where the heart notes include mint and green tea extract or Calvin Klein's Eternity, among others, with top notes of mandarin, lily of the valley and freesia, narcissus and white lily, and rose. and marigold in the heart note and musk, sandalwood, patchouli and amber in the base note. These fragrances alone would not be so charming. But if masterfully composed by the artist, they come to life again.

So how do you choose? Best of all - with a nose. Because the fragrance comes to life only when we feel it live. However, due to the fact that the fragrance is revealed in layers - from the top note to the base, you should not rely solely on the first impression. Let the fragrance work - spray it on a paper tester or on your wrist. Smell it several times and decide if it is yours.
