Volvo Cars and China Unicom agree
They will work together to research, develop and test 5G automotive applications.
Volvo Cars and China Unicom, a leading telecommunications company, join forces to create the next-generation 5G mobile technology for communication between cars and infrastructure in China.
Both companies agreed to jointly research, develop and test 5G automotive applications and the newly developed “Car for Everything” (V2X) technology.
The fifth generation of 5G mobile technology is many times faster, has more storage space and offers more efficient response times than previous 4G technology. High-speed data transfer to and from the car allows you to run more automotive applications.
Volvo Cars and China Unicom are exploring a range of different 5G applications between automobiles and infrastructure in China, identifying potential improvements in areas such as safety, sustainability, user friendliness, and autonomous driving.
For example, providing information related to road conditions, repairs, traffic, traffic jams and accidents helps the car take preventative measures, such as delays or suggest a different route. This can increase safety, avoid movement and increase energy efficiency.
