Well, maybe not quite a golden retriever, as he won't be able to bring you anything, and definitely a golden "transporter". And it will transport you as long as your car space needs are not too big, really comfortable. It must be admitted that the S40 is a relative of the Ford Focus and therefore one should not expect cosmic miracles in the interior.
If you are not too big, you will be comfortable sitting behind the wheel, otherwise you may run out of a centimeter of longitudinal movement of the front seats. At the back, unless the front passengers are very small, only children will sit well, and there will be ample space in the trunk (given that the opening is smaller due to the rear of the limousine) for both luggage.
No one inside will feel any discomfort from the chassis. This S40 is not and does not want to be an athlete? and it is right. It is enough to correctly "divide" the corners, without excessive body tilt and excessive understeer, while serving with good shock absorption under the wheels, reliable brakes and quite acceptable performance.
The latter is associated with a rather old, but by no means outdated engine. The two-liter petrol engine turned out to be surprisingly smooth, with very low noise levels and, above all (which is especially surprising given the fact that the manual transmission can only work with five gears), the already incredible flexibility. You can drive even the narrowest intersections in the city in third gear; with less than a thousand revolutions on the counter, it will pull quietly, vibration-free and so firmly that you will still be faster than the movement around you.
Due to the rather long fifth gear on the highway, there is also a low speed and, as a result, noise. Yes, these "old" engines are out of order. And you will not pay an excessive consumption tax: the test was a mileage of just under ten liters, and with a smaller share of city driving, it could have been at least a liter less. ...
