The question of an electric car - which one to choose? [reader letter]

The reader, Mr. Yakub, wrote to us:

At the outset, I would like to point out that Elektrowóz.pl is the best e-mobility portal. The texts are very light and interesting. I go to the portal even a few or ten times a day to check if there is already a new article.

I am writing to you with a banal, but, I think, a problem that has been popular lately - which electric car to choose? Now I have a 2017 Skoda Fabia III, but honestly, I'm looking forward to an electric car.

I live in a big city, in one of the many estates, in an apartment building with no access to a charging station; I know that it is possible to charge the car at public charging stations, so I am not worried about the problem with the availability of chargers, because it changes dynamically. As for the daily distance that I cover, statistically it is 50 km in gusts. Occasionally Sometimes I travel with my family for a little more than 200 km, and once a year I rest about 1200 km.

I wonder which car would be a good choice. Could you advise or guide? At the moment, I am considering three options:

  1. VW e-Golf,
  2. Ioniq [Electric - red.],
  3. Nissan Leaf 40 kWh.

There is perhaps a better option than the ones mentioned, but with a budget of around 170. zlotys? Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Which electric car to choose - our answer

(…) In terms of shopping, I would advise you not to buy anything. I am absolutely serious, I substantiated it in detail here:

… But in a nutshell, a wait of several or a dozen months will significantly expand the range of options available and may lead to the launch of a subsidy system for electric vehicles. Even if you NEED to buy something now, I would still wait for the official start of sales. Get e-Soul and get e-Nirofind out their prices.

There is one more interesting car in the “up to” range you suggested: Hyundai Kona Electric 39... It is smaller than the aforementioned vehicles (B-SUV segment instead of C), but offers a real range of 200+ kilometers and good equipment.

My personal Rating "I would like" today like this:

  1. Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD,
  2. Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus Kia e-Niro 64 кВтч,
  3. Volkswagen ID.3 58 kWh.

of course rating “I can almost afford it, and if I bought it, it would be fun too” looks completely different:

  1. Opel e-Corsa AND Renault Zoe ~ 50 kWh,
  2. Renault Zoe R110 41 kWh.

Of the cars you listed, I sympathize more and more with the e-Golf, although, of course, not for the money - the VW ID.3 is already much cheaper in the morning. And to be honest I would not buy anything with a mileage below 300 km (real, not NEDC)... I prefer using public transport or walking in the area, and several times a year I have to travel about 460 kilometers. Therefore, the real range of 300 kilometers is a reasonable minimum for me.

Did we advise Mr. Yakubu well? Or maybe we missed something worth being interested in? We would be grateful for your votes in the comments.
