Air bag. In this situation it will not work properly

Air bag. In this situation it will not work properly There are different opinions about airbags that protect car occupants in the event of an accident. On the one hand, manufacturers are placing more and more of them in the car, but an element exploding in front of the driver or passenger can be dangerous.

Of course, they do not give a complete guarantee of survival in every accident. As in many situations, it's a matter of statistics - if the car has airbags, the likelihood of injury is less than if they were not.

Frontal airbags are controversial - they are the biggest, "strongest", so maybe they can hurt car drivers? Research has shown that this is not the case! For example, it has been verified that it is quite safe to wear glasses - even when they “collision” with a pillow, they do not injure the eyes, at most they break in half.

The bottom line is that the airbags will not work properly if the car's occupants are not wearing their seat belts. In the event of an accident, the seat belt plays an important role in keeping passengers in a comfortable position in the center of the seat in front of the cushion. The Americans who invented pillows wanted to design a system “instead of” seat belts, but this turned out to be unrealistic.

The airbag protects only certain parts of the body: the head, neck and chest from impacts on the steering wheel, windshield, dashboard or other surfaces, but is not able to absorb all the force. In addition, its explosion can pose a threat to the driver or passenger who is not wearing seat belts.

In addition, it has been verified that for the front airbag to work well, the body of the person sitting in the chair must be at least 25 cm away from it. In such a situation, in the event of an accident, the passenger's body rests against a pillow already filled with gas (it takes several tens of milliseconds to fill it) and only cotton and a cloud of talc, which is then released, make an unpleasant impression. After a fraction of a second, the airbags empty and no longer interfere with the view.

And yet - statistics show that automatic unreasonable activation of airbags is extremely rare, and their installation is very durable. However, when airbags deploy (for example, in a minor accident), their drivers must also be replaced, which is quite expensive.
