We drove: Husqvarna TE 250R / 310R / 449R / 511R models 2013

This may really sound like a marketing cliché, as we all too often hear stories of a manufacturer replacing just a few screws and graphics and then touting it as a big novelty for the next year. At first glance, Husqvarna for enduro has not changed much, but only externally!

Even more constant are the two-stroke models WR 125 (ideal for youngsters), WR 250 and WR 300 (enduro classic - with proven reliability) and the hybrid between Husqvarna and BMW, i.e. TE 449 and TE 511. They have new graphics. and some details, a slightly updated suspension and that's it. But the flagship models, the four-stroke TE 250 and TE 310, are more innovative than the looks.

The biggest and very obvious difference is when you take the TE 250 and 310, which have basically the same engine (only with a size difference), from the city to the enduro range. The Keihin fuel injection system is all new and in combination with the new cylinder head and new valves works much better, and when you choose a soft and hard engine program, the bowl quickly becomes fun. Engineers have taken care of a more even and decisive response to the throttle lever, so there is no longer the feeling of a hole in the power increase curve. While the TE250 is now very healthy at low revs but still runs at top revs and loves revs, the TE 310 is a true serious race machine.

In fast corners, it also allows you to move up one gear, which of course means less use of the clutch and gearbox. After homework: the chain can be pulled longer and the power transfer to the ground is more efficient. Husqvarna wrote that the TE 250 has eight percent more power and torque, while the TE 310 has eight percent more torque and five percent more power. Considering the fact that this engine is the lightest of any competing bike on the market (only 23kg), it's no surprise that both the TE 250 and TE 310 are extremely light and fun to ride. You can throw them from turn to turn like a bike and the power and torque help in this game.

We also liked that they retained the proverbial comfort. The bikes don't get tired, which is essential for long enduro tours or multi-day races. In addition to agility and comfort, the TE 250 and TE 310 have excellent suspension. It is adapted to the enduro terrain, that is, to all the variety that can be found in the forests, so it is softer than for motocross. It always provides good traction. At the front, the entire enduro lineup is designed for Kayaba upside-down forks (an open system – no cartridge – designed for motocross models only), and at the rear, a Sachs shock provides shock absorption.

As usual at Husqvarna, peace of mind at high speeds is guaranteed. With a tubular steel frame that underwent major changes a year ago, the latest-generation suspension and quality components, these models are at the top of the range for serious off-road use, be it amateur drivers or enduro riders.
