The VAZ 2107 model (popularly called simply the “seven”) has been considered a classic of the domestic automotive industry for decades. Over the years, the car was repeatedly modified and re-equipped, but the classic version until 2012 was equipped with a carburetor engine. Therefore, it is so important for the owners of the "seven" to understand the design of the carburetor and be able, if necessary, to adjust, repair or replace it.

Throughout the entire period of production of the model, two-chamber carburetor mechanisms were installed on the car. In the arrangement of carburetors on the VAZ 2107, small details are of great importance. Each component of the system is aimed at doing its job, and therefore the failure of at least one part threatens to break the entire carburetor.

In the design of the device, the following can be considered especially “capricious”:

  1. Jets. These are tubes with clearly calibrated holes. There are fuel and air (for supplying gasoline and air, respectively). If the holes become clogged with dust or, conversely, wear out during operation, the throughput of the jets can be reduced or increased. In this regard, the carburetor will not be able to maintain proportions when forming the fuel-air mixture.
  2. Float in the float chamber. It is this device that determines the required level of gasoline to guarantee the quality of the engine in any of the modes. If the float settings go astray, then the whole system experiences difficulties in preparing the mixture, since there may not be enough gasoline or, conversely, too much.
  3. Carburetor gaskets. As an element, gaskets are installed on the outside of the carburetor body to prevent overheating of the device and securely fix the device itself to the intake manifold. However, frequent driving on broken roads quickly wears out the gaskets, so it is recommended that you pay attention to these elements every time you inspect the device.
  4. Accelerator pump. This is a special device whose function is to transfer the mixture from the chamber to the engine.

Typical equipment of the VAZ 2107 in the USSR and Russia meant 1.6 liter carburetors. The maximum power of such an installation is 75 horsepower. The device consumes AI-92 fuel.

Purpose of the carburetor

The essence of the work of any carburetor is to create a fuel-air mixture. To do this, the following processes take place in the device case:

  1. The throttle valve opens, through which a strictly limited amount of gasoline enters the cavity of the float chamber.
  2. The economizer also regulates the fuel dose, so only the amount of gasoline that the engine needs at the moment of operation enters the chamber.
  3. Through jets (special tubes with holes), gasoline is directed to chambers No. 1.
  4. Here, the fuel is crushed into tiny particles and mixed with air particles: in this way, a fuel-air mixture is created, which is necessary for the full operation of the engine.
  5. If the vehicle speed increases, a second chamber may be used to create more mixture.
  6. The accelerator pump sends the finished mixture to the diffusers, and from there to the cylinders.

What carburetors are installed on the VAZ 2107

Since the release of the "seventh" model, AvtoVAZ engineers have repeatedly changed carburetor installations on cars so that the VAZ 2107 can meet the requirements of its time. Particular attention was paid not only to power characteristics, but also to indicators of fuel consumption, environmental friendliness and ease of maintenance.

In the history of the VAZ 2107, three main carburetors can be distinguished:

  1. "DAAZ" (the device is named after the manufacturer - Dimitrovgrad Automotive Plant). The first carburetors for the VAZ 2107 were manufactured in Dimitrovgrad under a license from Weber. The design of these devices was extremely simple, and therefore reduced the cost of the model. DAAZ carburetors were distinguished by good speed indicators, however, they consumed a large amount of gasoline - at least 10 liters per 100 kilometers.
  2. Ozone is an improved version of DAAZ. This installation met all the environmental requirements of its time, besides, the designers managed to reduce gasoline consumption. For speed of work, a pneumatic valve was built into the equipment of the second internal combustion chamber, which became a problem for many car owners. As soon as the valve got a little dusty, the second chamber of the carburetor ceased to function.
  3. The most modern installation of the Dimitrovgrad plant is called "Solex". Structurally, this carburetor is very complex, as it has a fuel return system. Thanks to this, Solex saves gasoline, even at high engine speeds. However, this modification also has its drawbacks: the carburetor is very capricious to the quality of the fuel consumed.

Before adjusting the float, you need to remove the air filter housing and unscrew the screws that hold the carburetor cover. After that, direct access to the float chamber opens:

  1. The float stroke must correspond to 8 mm (this is a typical parameter for all VAZ 2107 carburetors). Accordingly, if the float is above this norm, then the consumption of gasoline will increase, if it is lower, then due to fuel losses, the car will sharply lose its dynamism.
  2. Using your fingers and a screwdriver with a thin flat blade, it is necessary to adjust the float mounts to a norm of 8 mm.
  3. After fitting, it is recommended to re-measure the level of its position.
  4. Next, screw the carburetor cover back into place.

Idle adjustment

After working with the float, you can begin to adjust the idle speed of the carburetor. It is important that the engine is well warmed up and the air filter housing is left aside:

  1. Close the quality screw to the stop, then unscrew it 3-4 turns back.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. Turn on all lighting devices, acoustics, stove - you need to create the maximum load on the carburetor.
  4. In this mode, set the number of revolutions equal to 750–800 units / min.
  5. The quality screw must be in a position that achieves a maximum idle speed of no more than 900 rpm.
  6. After that, carefully tighten the quality screw back until jerks are observed in the operation of the motor. Here it is worth stopping and returning the screw one turn back.

How to replace a carburetor on a VAZ 2107

This question can take an inexperienced driver of the "seven" by surprise. But in fact, the procedure for replacing the carburetor is not difficult. The only thing that the driver can confuse is the connection points of certain hoses. Therefore, it is recommended to sign where and which hose should be connected to the new carburetor.

How to remove a carburetor from a car

Dismantling work must be carried out only on a cold engine to avoid the possibility of injury. Due to the fact that the carburetor is located on the intake manifold, this part can cool down for a very long time - you need to keep this fact in mind.

Dismantling the device takes an average of 7-12 minutes:

  1. Remove the air filter housing so that you can crawl to the carburetor.
  2. First of all, two thin wires must be disconnected from the device: one of them feeds the throttle valve, the second - air.
  3. Next, disconnect the economizer return spring.
  4. Use a screwdriver to loosen the clamps on the large gasoline supply pipe and remove the hose. Beforehand, it is necessary to place a rag under the carburetor so that the outflowing gasoline does not blur under the car.
  5. Remove the fuel return hose (it is thinner than the main one).
  6. Unscrew the ventilation and vacuum hoses (they are even thinner).
  7. After that, it is possible to dismantle the carburetor itself from the car. The body of the device is fixed to the intake manifold with four nuts that must be unscrewed.
  8. The opened hole in the collector must be immediately closed so that dust does not get inside.

Of course, it is recommended to install a new carburetor only after cleaning the joint. Over the years of operation of the mechanism, the surface of the collector could be covered with soot, dust and fuel smudges.

Don't forget the lining

Depending on the year of manufacture of the VAZ 2107, between the carburetor and the intake manifold there could be gaskets made of a variety of materials: from metal to cardboard. Regardless of the degree of wear of the existing gasket, it will need to be replaced with a new one.

It is important to choose a gasket from the same material as the original, since only in this case it will be possible to achieve a reliable connection. Accordingly, after removing the old carburetor and cleaning the joint, it is necessary to install a new gasket.

  1. The device is mounted on four studs and screwed with nuts.
