Are you looking for a safe car? Check out Mazda Active Safety Systems!

For many people looking for a new car, safety is a top priority. The creators of new Mazda models are well aware of this, so the latest active protection systems for the driver and passengers work at the highest level.

A high-quality security system is not only protection in the event of a possible collision. Knowing that the car we drive is safe gives us a lot of confidence and gives us peace of mind every time we get behind the wheel of our Mazda. The latest safety solutions are designed not only to protect our health in the event of an accident, but above all to prevent potential danger.

 Not just airbags and ABS

For a long time, airbags and ABS brakes were standard, introduced in the nineties. However, there are now many more elements to protect the health and life of the driver and passengers. There are active deformation zones that absorb energy in a collision, reinforced pillars and doors, additional side curtains and knee pads. Most of the latest safety systems are also great for everyday driving. Automakers have come to the conclusion that it is worth focusing on developing technology that prevents danger, and not just minimizes the consequences of a collision. As a result, for example, a system was created for starting and climbing uphill or descending downhill. This is especially useful for SUVs, including the latest Mazda CX-5 and CX-30 models. In turn, the Mazda CX-3 has a reliable electronic parking brake.

Interestingly, Mazda also introduced the i-Activ AWD system with intelligent all-wheel drive system for its Mazda 3 hatchback. Safety in this case is provided by the drive, which increases protection on slippery or muddy surfaces. The system senses road conditions and distributes torque to the wheels accordingly to prevent skidding. The latest Mazda models regularly increase the number of sensors and cameras used as a collision warning system. Of course, the driver still needs to be vigilant, but in the event of a distraction, he can count on the support of security systems. In Mazda vehicles, this is i-Activsense, a set of "electronic senses" that support the driver at every turn. This includes Using the latest technology, Mazda's flagship models such as the Mazda3, Mazda6 and the Mazda CX-30 compact SUV have received a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

Intelligent braking

The introduction of the ABS system was a breakthrough in the history of safe braking. Most of the responsibility for the successful and, most importantly, safe stopping of the car was removed from the shoulders of the driver. Now the safety braking engineers have gone even further. In the case of Mazda, the creators of active safety systems asked a very important question: when do accidents most often occur? Well, most of them happen when we feel confident behind the wheel and our concentration weakens. This happens, for example, in traffic jams, when at speeds up to 30 km/h we move in a tight space between other vehicles. Accidents also happen in parking lots when we rush to work or return home tired.

Knowing the most frequent collisions, Mazda developers have developed the Intelligent Urban Braking Assistant. Its main task is to detect with sensors what is happening in front of the car. In the event of an emergency, the system immediately prepares the vehicle for braking by increasing the pressure of the brake fluid and reducing the distance between the brake pads and the working surface of the discs. This is mainly about other cars, as well as pedestrians suddenly entering the road or cyclists driving dynamically through the city. High-speed electric scooters have recently become a serious threat to drivers. The sensors warn the driver and if the driver does not react, the car will stop itself.

Fatigue Support

We use cars in almost all cases. Whether we're tired or our minds are on other things than driving, sometimes we just need to get behind the wheel. That's why Mazda's latest safety solutions are designed to support tired and distracted drivers. One of them is the lane departure warning system. There are a number of reasons why a driver may deviate from their lane for a variety of reasons, ranging from focusing on the phone to falling asleep at the wheel.

In each of these cases, the consequences of a collision with another car can be tragic. That is why the cameras in Mazda cars monitor the road markings. The image is compared with the movements of the steering wheel and the inclusion of turn signals. When a lane change is preceded by a turn signal, the system does not respond. Otherwise, crossing the line on the road is treated as unintentional movement, possibly caused by fatigue. A soft pulse is then fired to remind the driver to signal for a lane change. In both cases, the system improves driving safety and can be found on the base Mazda 2.

Convenience and safety

Adaptive LED headlights are one of the systems that combine safety and driving comfort. Driving at night requires increased vigilance, because we do not see what is happening outside the road, but we often have to change the light from far to near, so as not to blind drivers traveling from the opposite direction. On the other hand, when turning, the headlights should illuminate the roadside where a pedestrian or animal may be. In Mazda vehicles with the i-Activsense sensor system, the driver receives more light support.

Depending on the state of the vehicle, the individual LED headlight units are switched on, for example when cornering, or switched off so as not to dazzle other road users. In addition, their operating speed and illumination range are adapted to the speed of movement. As a result, the driver no longer needs to switch the lights, and at the same time, he has the best lighting at the moment. This is a particularly valuable feature of high-speed road cars such as the Mazda MX-5 Roadster, whose narrow headlights are in harmony with the car's classic character.

Convenience and safety are also combined with the head-up display, available on many versions of Mazda vehicles, including standard equipment on the Mazda 6 sedan. The display presents data on the windshield, so the driver does not have to take his eyes off the road to check the most important information in this moment.

The seat belts are also much easier to use. In the past, each element had to be tightly tightened to provide optimal protection. Mazda uses the latest version of smart belts with special pretensioners that quickly react to a collision if necessary. In turn, when braking, load limiters are activated, so that the body does not feel too much pressure.

A body prepared for any scenario

Major changes in terms of Mazda vehicle safety have also taken place in vehicle design. The body of the Skyactiv-Body series has been significantly reduced (which also reduces fuel consumption) and also strengthened. Rigidity has been improved by 30% compared to previous models, meaning travelers are safer. Mazda engineers paid the most attention to the key elements, i.e. roof rails and pillars. The new structure is designed to absorb impact energy and disperse it in many directions, including in the event of a side or rear impact.

The new design also extends to the mask, which is shaped to mitigate injuries to pedestrians in the event of an accident. In turn, the first level of protection inside the car is a system of six airbags. Every Mazda model has two front and two side airbags as standard, as well as two side curtains that deploy within a fraction of a second after a collision is detected by sensors.

Currently, security systems have a tangible impact on protecting the health and life of both the driver and passengers. The latest solutions in this area help not only to minimize injuries in the event of an accident, but above all to prevent danger on the road. Mazda engineers also thought about everyday situations in which accidents occur, such as standing in a traffic jam or parking right in front of the house. Thanks to all these solutions, everyone who gets into the new Mazda can feel calm and be sure that he is being watched by the active safety system. Find out more about safety in cars.
