Yamaha WR250R

  • Video: Yamaha WR 250 R

If you are watching dirty motorsport, you are probably familiar with the fact that motorcycles with a 250cc four-stroke engine. Cm compete in the same class as the 125cc two-stroke motorcycles. Cm.

In theory, a two-stroke engine has twice the power for the same volume, so combining it into one class is understandable and fair. Why am I talking about racing classes when we are talking about a two-wheeled vehicle that is not even accidentally created for racing? Because when I was driving the new Yamaha I got the idea that the same rules might apply on the road.

With the WR250R, sixteen-year-olds could ride legally with friends who drive, for example, a Yamaha DT 16 two-stroke. All is well and good, but the problem is horses. By law, 125-year-olds can ride a motorcycle with a maximum of 16 "horses", and on a test keel - as many as 15. Mules, unfortunately, will have to wait two years. However, when the test for unlimited volume and power is in your pocket, everyone prefers to reach for a (too strong) bike.

Let me share with you the thoughts that crossed my mind as I drove from the Yamaha dealership in Rudnik: the bike is big enough, the steering wheel is where it should be on an enduro, and the power is enough to drive the plane at a speed that you haven't been fined on the track yet.

Faster riding this type of motorcycle is not pleasant. Finally, here's a motorcycle that I can ride on curbs and get off the road when I want to drive on gravel roads. Do I even need more?

Before the first few kilometers, I imperceptibly suspected that this is just a slightly more powerful, larger and refurbished XT125R, which is a very good buy for its price, which is also confirmed by the sales numbers, but it is still not enough fun for a serious holiday. driving on the road. This premonition turned out to be wrong as the WR250R is brand new.

The lightweight and rigid frame is made of aluminum, the suspension is adjustable, and the single-cylinder engine is electronically powered and water-cooled. Let's look at the generator first: it glows beautifully and emits a fairly quiet exhaust, which is increasingly appreciated by drivers in the field. If you're in no rush, you can also ride at low revs as the bike pulls well and doesn't knock. However, it seems that the cylinder is not very large in volume, so it needs to be rotated at high speeds for more decisive acceleration.

This takes some getting used to, otherwise you may find yourself in a situation where the rear wheel does not react as sharply as you would like. The solution is simple - if you switch to a lower gear, 30 lively "horsemen" will plunge into the ground.

This is enough to make it possible to climb dangerously steep slopes and to make riding on rough terrain a real pleasure. The clutch and drivetrain are good, but sporty precision is not the case. First of all, I would like to have a longer gear lever as it is designed to fit a maximum foot in a # 40 shoe.

Yamaha may know that Mularium (thankfully) loves to wear quality gear, which also includes motocross boots, which we highly recommend for riding.

A motorcycle is a real toy on the field, which will not leave indifferent a beginner in the world of off-road driving. The long-stroke suspension absorbs bumps well and you can easily afford to jump, only the more demanding ones will probably need more power. But as we understand each other, this is not a racing car, but a very good car for every day.

Front and rear disc brakes are strong enough not to shake a student when he pushes the lever too hard on poor surfaces. The bike is very thin between the legs, and considering that it should be suitable for off-road and road riding, the seat is well padded.

The fuel tank is lockable and holds 7 liters of fuel, which means that you will have to stop at refueling approximately every 6 kilometers. Although we did not regret the single-cylinder engine, the flow rate was no more than five liters.

If the brand in the pink booklet doesn't let you buy a more powerful bike, or if you're sure 250cc is enough, the WR250R is a good choice for those who like to combine everyday convenience with off-road sportiness. Just for thought, the slightly less sporty but much more powerful XT660R is just under $500 more.
