Replacing the Renault Logan oil filter

Some car owners, in an attempt to save money, ignore the filter manufacturer or do not change it during scheduled maintenance. But in fact, this part ensures stable and easy operation of the engine. Located in the same lubrication circuit, it retains abrasive particles and contaminants resulting from engine operation and protects the piston group from wear.

The main criteria for selection.

Despite the fact that Renault Logan 1,4 and 1,6 liter engines are quite simple in technical terms, they are quite demanding on a high-quality filter element, so do not stand on ceremony when choosing a new part. Let us consider in more detail, based on what criteria it is necessary to choose a part and make the correct replacement.

You need to know exactly which oil filter is suitable for a particular car model. To find out, you need to use a special directory or find a suitable analogue in the electronic catalog by the VIN code of the car. It is necessary to pay attention to the article, certain tolerances and technical conditions in which the product will be operated.

The manufacturer recommends using only original spare parts for their cars that can ensure reliable oil cleanliness during engine operation. You should not install non-original products, as this can lead to premature wear and, as a result, engine failure and costly repairs.

The design of the oil filter is the same for engines 1,4 and 1,6: a cylindrical housing consisting of an alloy of light metals. Inside is a paper filter element. Oil leakage is prevented by a special pressure reducing valve. This design provides minimal resistance during cold start of the engine.

Non-original filters differ in their design, therefore, sufficient passage of the required amount of oil is not guaranteed. In this case, there may be a lack of engine oil.

How to change the Renault Logan oil filter.

The filter is usually changed at a scheduled oil change. To do this, you need to find a suitable platform to gain access to the bottom of the car. The ideal solution would be a garage with a peephole. From the tools you will need a new part, a special extractor and a few rags.

Helpful Hint: If you don't have an extractor handy, you can use fine-grained sandpaper. You need to wrap it around the filter to ensure the best adhesion. If it is not at hand, then the filter can be pierced with a screwdriver, and how to unscrew it with a lever. This can spill a small amount of oil, so be careful when standing under it so that the liquid does not get on your face, not to mention your eyes.

Order of work

Replacement is carried out in several stages:

  1. We remove the crankcase protection, for this you just need to unscrew a few bolts that attach it to the subframe and bottom.
  2. We provide free access. In the version with the 1,4 liter engine, several hoses must be removed by pulling them out of the brackets. A more powerful engine has a slightly different device and, accordingly, more free space.
  3. Unscrew the oil filter.

Before you install a new part, you need to pour a little oil to soak the paper element. After that, lubricate the O-ring with a small amount of new oil and turn it by hand, without the use of tools.
