It would seem that a simple procedure for replacing the coolant (coolant) in the cooling system of the carburetor or injection engine of VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 cars and their modifications has some features, without knowing which, as a result, you can get a number of problems (for example, constant overheating of the engine and dismantling the expansion tank from the cover).

Fixing tool and necessary spare parts

- Socket wrench or head on "13"

- One can or two coolants (antifreeze, antifreeze) - 8 liters

- Drain the coolant from the engine block

Loosen the drain plug on the cylinder block. We use the key or head on "13". Drain the liquid.

- Remove the remnants of the old coolant from the system

Unscrew and remove the expansion tank cap

After that, a little more old fluid will come out of the radiator and the drain holes of the cylinder block.

We squeeze the radiator pipes with our hands to expel the last remaining liquid.

- We wrap back the drain plugs of the radiator and block

- Remove the inlet pipe from the carburetor heating unit or the throttle assembly of the injection engine

- Fill with new coolant

We insert a funnel into the opening of the expansion tank and pour liquid through it. It is not necessary to pour out all the liquid at once. Pour a couple of liters, tighten the hoses of the cooling system. A couple more liters, squeeze again. This removes air from the system. Air will also escape through the removed carburetor heater hose or throttle body. When the liquid comes out, replace the hose and tighten it with a clamp.

We stop adding liquid when it reaches its level in the expansion tank between the MIN and MAX marks. This is the norm.

- We start the engine and wait until the pump drives the coolant through the system

When the level in the expansion tank drops, add fluid and bring it to normal.

- Replace the expansion tank cap

You can pre-rinse it under running water and blow it with compressed air.

- Warm up the engine to operating temperature

At the same time, we check how much the level rises in the expansion tank (no more than up to the MAX mark), check the absence of leaks under the hoses and the possibility of opening the thermostat. After that, we can assume that the work on replacing the coolant in the engine cooling system of VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 vehicles has been completed.

Notes and additions

- After draining the liquid from the cooling system, there will still be about a liter. This must be taken into account when calculating the amount of new fluid that must be poured into the system.
