Replacing the gasket under the valve cover on the VAZ 2101-2107

Very often one has to see cars, and most of the owners, whose engines are all in oil, as if not a car, but a tractor. On all “classic” models, from the VAZ 2101 to the VAZ 2107, there is such a problem as oil leaking from under the valve cover. But you can solve this problem with the usual replacement of the gasket, which costs mere pennies. I don’t remember exactly, but I had to buy in different stores and the price was from 50 to 100 rubles.

And to carry out this replacement is as easy as shelling pears, you only need:

• Socket head 10
• Small extension cord
• Crank or ratchet
• Dry rag

The first step is to remove the air filter together with the housing, as it will interfere with further work. And then disconnect the carburetor throttle control rod, as clearly shown in the photo below:

Then we unscrew all the nuts securing the cover to the cylinder head, as can be seen in the picture below:

Also remove all washers to avoid losing them when removing the cover. And after that, you can lift the lid up, since nothing else holds.

To replace the gasket, you must first remove the old one, and this is easy to do, since it is held there on parole:

Before proceeding with the installation of a new gasket, be sure to wipe the surface of the cover and cylinder head dry, then install the gasket evenly and put on the cover carefully so as not to move it to the side. Then we tighten all the fastening nuts and install all the removed parts in the reverse order.
